Do the home team Buffaloes have a shot at the outright win in the 2019 Nebraska at Colorado free pick? The Cornhuskers must go on the road after a sluggish opener in which they beat South Alabama 35-21, but as -35 favorites. Colorado looked very solid in their opener, taking down Colorado State 52-31 as -11.5 favorites. The Buffs also won this matchup a year ago, scoring a 33-28 win in Lincoln.
Can Nebraska Put it Together Saturday?
The Cornhuskers are -4 points in the 2019 Nebraska at Colorado free pick. It’s not like Nebraska played horrible in their opener, they did win by 2 TDs after all. That being said, it wasn’t the kind of dominant performance one would expect from a team that is a dark horse candidate for the CFP.
Despite scoring 35 points in their opener, the Nebraska offense was a disappointment in week one. QB Adrian Martinez is looked at as a potential Heisman candidate but he was just 13/22 for 178 yards and an INT vs. South Alabama. The Cornhuskers also had 44 rushes for just 98 yards (2.2 avg). Nebraska returned both their offensive tackles, but is replacing the entire interior and it was evident in week one.
The Cornhusker defense gave up 31.3 ppg in 2018 and isn’t off to the best start after allowing SAU to score 21 points. Nebraska was strong on defense in week one vs. the run, as the Jaguars averaged just 1.9 ypc on 44 rushes. South Alabama QB Cephus Johnson did throw for 234 yards and 2 TD though and Colorado has a way more potent attack than the Jaguars’.
Colorado Looks for Another Win Over Nebraska
The Buffaloes went into Lincoln as 3 point underdogs a year ago and came away with a 33-28 win. CU scored on a 40-yard pass with just over a minute left to pull off the upset. Nebraska is now just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 meetings vs. Colorado. It was part of a 5-0 start for the Buffaloes who then subsequently lost their last 7.
Two of the big reasons that Colorado won the game a year ago return for the 2019 Nebraska at Colorado free pick. In the 2018 meeting, QB Steven Montez was 33/50 for 351 yards and 3TD. Wide receiving playmaker Laviska Shenault, Jr. had 10 catches for 117 yards and a TD last year in Lincoln. Colorado might also have a solid running game in 2019 as they return four starters on the offensive line. It’s working already as Alex Fontenot 19 carries for 125 yards and 3 TD in the week one win over Colorado State.
The Colorado defense did give up 505 yards in week one which is a concern. Colorado State averaged 4.2 yards a rush and Rams QB Collin Hill tossed for 374 yards and 3 TD. It could be a bounce back day for Martinez and the Nebraska offense.
2019 Nebraska at Colorado Free Pick
This game is looking like it could be a high scoring affair and the O/U kind of represents that at 64 points. The Cornhuskers will surely have a better performance than they did in week one, especially with the revenge factor of last year’s defeat to Colorado. The truth is, it might not be enough though. The Colorado offense is potent and versatile with a great receiver, an emerging RB, a dual threat QB, and an experienced offensive line.
