The John Deere Classic might be one of the most intriguing tournaments this PGA season. When you couple the amounts of golfers leaving to the LIV along with the scheduling of this event a couple weeks prior to The Open at St. Andrews and the field is very thin.
The field from TPC Deere Run in Silvis, IL features just two players in the Top 75 of the OWGR, #58 Webb Simpson and #75 Christian Bezuidenhout. Simpson is the 14/1 favorite, but really there would be no shock of any winner in the 2022 John Deere Classic betting odds. Let’s take a look at some of the better wagers for this weekend in the Quad Cities:
Adam Hadwin to Win 20/1
This is an important weekend for Adam Hadwin who is still trying to qualify for the Open in a couple weeks. He has the skill set to be the front runner in this field, firing a 66 to take the first round lead at the U.S. Open before finishing in 7th. He ranks 30th in the entire PGA in GIR percentage, which ends up being in the top 10 in this field.
Maverick McNealy Top 5 Finish +350
This tournament has been a launching ground for the likes of Jordan Spieth and Bryson DeChambeau to pick up their first Tour victories. Could Maverick McNealy be the next to step into that role in 2022 John Deere Classic betting? The 26-year-old leads the PGA in Eagles (holes per) and is 20th in birdies so he could easily get to -20 or better this weekend.
Ryan Moore Top 10 Finish +750
Ryan Moore not only won this event in 2016, he showed a mastery of TPC Deere Run in 2021 finishing as runner-up to Lucas Glover, two strokes back. Moore had a 91.1% driving accuracy in this tournament last year, and hit 80.6% of his GIR which was 5th best for the weekend. If Moore can putt better in 2022 he’ll be vying for the top spot.
Chez Reavie 1st Round Top 10 +325
At this point it seems only a matter of time before Chez Reavie picks up his third career Tour victory. He hit four birdies on the back 9 at the Travelers for an 8th place finish which was the best of the season. That finish was actually disappointing for Reavie who hit 15 of 18 GIR in the final round last Sunday so he comes in with momentum.
Brendon Todd Top American Player 22/1
There is a whole field of foreigners high in the rankings that could legitimately take home the crown this weekend in Silvis. Hadwin (20/1) is from Canada, Jason Day (25/1) and Cameron Davis (28/1) are from Australia, and Bezuidenholt (28/1) from South Africa.
They are all within the top 7 in odds this weekend but Brendan Todd (33/1) has just as good of a chance to win in Silvis than anybody. The 36-year-old finished 3rd at the Charles Schwab Challenge but should be much better than that ranking 5th in driving accuracy which is a key metric to Moore’s success here last season.
