SEC and ACC Tiger Teams Battle in What Looks Like a Close Game
The SEC #13 Auburn Tigers (1-0) will play the ACC #3 Clemson Tigers today at 7 p.m. E.T. These two teams offer tough defenses and explosive offenses. When these two teams met last season at Auburn it was Clemson that prevailed 19-13. Five years ago when they met, it was once again Clemson, 26-19. Our Auburn plays Clemson 2017 college football pick has the home team at –4.5 and the totals bet at 57.0. One thing for sure, we expect this game to be hard-fought and the play-by-play battles to be intense.
Auburn Offense at Clemson Defense
The Auburn offense will look to sophomore QB Jarrett Stidham to lead them. In his initial game against Georgia Southern, he went 14-of-24 throwing two TD passes and one INT. He also rushed for one score. RB Kerryon Johnson, who ran for 136 yards in the game and scored one touchdown, suffered a hamstring injury it will likely not play today. Kam Martin, who also had 136 yards and one score, will play. Watch for junior WR Will Hastings, who had four receptions for 68 yards and one touchdown, to make some big plays.
The Clemson defense included DE Dexter Lawrence and WLB Kendall Joseph. Both are experienced and extremely proficient at containing quarterbacks and running backs. DT Christian Wilkins is also a major force, able to control running backs and harass quarterbacks. Junior DE Austin Bryant had a very strong game against Kent last week. He’ll look to continue this week.
Clemson Offense at Auburn Defense
Junior QB Kelly Bryant has a premium game last week, connecting on 16-of-22 passes for 236 yards and one TD. He also had seven rushed for 77 yards and another touchdown. Three Clemson players had 50-plus yards apiece while scoring a total of four touchdowns. Junior RB C.J. Fuller averaged 7.2 YPA and scored twice. A total of 15 receivers caught at least one pass in the game.
Auburn will have to contain Bryant, which won’t be easy. Senior LB Tre’ Williams and sophomore DL Marlon Davidson each had a fine first game as together they tallied four sacks, four TFL, two QBH, and 14 tackles total. Auburn’s defensive line will be especially important in this game. Their secondary may be challenged and that could be a problem in this game.
