New York is on a nice little roll coming into the June 25th Yankees at Red Sox matchup, and there’s a little bit of revenge on the line at Fenway Park over the weekend. Boston was able to capture a 3-game sweep in the Bronx earlier this month, scoring 18 runs in the process.
Despite dropping three straight to the Sox at the beginning of June and being on the road, the Yankees are -126 favorites on Friday night. New York has won 7 of their last 9 while Boston has dropped 4 of 6. The BoSox are back at Fenway after an 8-game road trip, and are 5-1 in their last 6 home games vs. a RH starter. Does that give Boston value at +105.
NYY Playing Well
After a bit of a rough stretch, the Yankees have turned things on as of late going 7-2 since June 15th. That run has still left New York 4 GB from the Rays in the East, and 3.5 GB from 2nd place Boston. NYY went 4-2 over their most recent home stand, and are 19-16 on the road this season.
Gary Sanchez has been a big part of New York’s recent success, belting 3 HR and 7 RBI over his past five games. Giancarlo Stanton is on a 6-game homerless streak, but does have 6 hits in his last 15 AB. The ‘over’ is also 5-1 in New York’s last 6 vs. a LH starter, and Stanton has 2 HR in 7 AB vs. Boston’s Friday starter Martin Perez (5-4, 4.32 ERA).
Domingo German (4-4, 4.17 ERA) will try to get New York off to a solid start in the June 25th Yankees at Red Sox contest. The right-hander hasn’t picked up a win over his last five starts, and has allowed 11 ER over his last two outings (8.1 IP). German didn’t pitch in 2020 because of a suspension, but was 2-1 vs. Boston in 2019 although he had a 5.75 ERA in four starts.
Boston Back at Home
The big question facing the Red Sox is how they’ll perform in their first home game since June 14th. Boston got the sweep at Yankee Stadium earlier this month, but have lost 5 of their last 6 to New York at Fenway Park. Overall, the Yankees have won 23 of the last 32 in this series.
The good news is that Boston is up against a pitcher who has had some recent struggles in German. The downside is that the Red Sox have scored just 3 runs over their last two games, dropping both of those contests to 1st place Tampa Bay. Xander Bogaerts should be in line for a big day in the June 25th Yankees at Red Sox matchup, as he is 5-12 (.417) with a HR in his career vs. German.
Perez goes for Boston looking for his 6th win in the last 8 outings. It’s been the most recent performances from the left-hander that are troubling though, as Perez has given up 5+ ER in two of the last three. He did hold KC to 3 hits and 1 ER last time out, so maybe the Southpaw has turned the corner.
Free June 25th Yankees at Red Sox Pick
New York is definitely the hotter team as of late, and about 60% of public bettors like the road team in this one. Both pitchers have been a bit unstable as of late though, with German being the worse of the two.
