Milwaukee comes into July 27th Brewers at Pirates betting listed as whopping -175 favorites. It would seem that there’s value on Pittsburgh at +150 in their first home game of the season. The Pirates are also coming off a 5-1 win over St. Louis on Sunday as well to avoid a sweep from the Cardinals.
The Brewers dropped 2 of 3 over the weekend against the Cubs, getting shut out on Friday and dominated 9-1 on Sunday. Milwaukee goes with Adrian Houser on Monday and he pitched well after moving into the rotation late last season. Steven Brault gets the ball for Pittsburgh, but likely only for a couple innings in a ‘piggyback’ role.
Brewers Bats Kind of Struggling
Milwaukee is trying to replace Eric Thames, Mike Moustakas, and Yasmani Grandal this season and have struggled to do so over baseball’s opening weekend. Orlando Arcia was the only Brewers player to get a hit Friday vs. Kyle Hendricks and Milwaukee managed just 3 hits Sunday vs. Tyler Chatwood.
Aside from a HR on Saturday, Christian Yelich is struggling coming into July 27th Brewers at Pirates betting. Yelich went 0-4 with 3K’s on Sunday and has started the year 1-13 (.077). Milwaukee has a combined .236 team BA vs. Pittsburgh’s Brault which would make the ‘under’ 9.5 look solid.
Houser is looking to build on a successful second half of 2019. The right-hander posted a 3.28 ERA in his last 12 starts of the season and held opponents to a .286 OBP over that span. Houser had two shutout innings in relief vs. Pittsburgh last season but was rocked for 5ER in 4.0 IP in a start on July 5th.
Pirates Set for Home Opener
Even without fans in attendance there has to be an edge for the home team in the first game of 2020 at PNC Park. The Pirates will still be underdogs for the fourth straight tilt of the season however.
Pittsburgh lost a close 5-4 game in the opener and were thumped 9-1 on Saturday. The Pirates salvaged one in a 5-1 win on Sunday thanks to a 3-4 day from Phillip Evans and HRs from Colin Moran and Jose Osuna. The Pittsburgh lineup has only seen Houser for 15 total AB but they’ve managed 8 hits in that span (.533). Kevin Newman is 2-2 with a HR vs. the Brewers starter.
Derek Shelton will go with Brault for July 27th Brewers at Pirates betting. The left-hander may not go long though after battling shoulder issues most of the Spring. Brault was just 4-6 a year ago in 15 starts and he posted a career high ERA of 5.16.
July 27th Pirates at Brewers Betting Pick
The Brewers offense was putrid in two of three games vs. Chicago over the weekend. That being said Brault is a big unknown for Pittsburgh as well and they may have to go to the bullpen sooner before later. Houser was also rocked by the Pittsburgh offense in a start last July so there should be some runs put up on Monday.
