Overview
The Cincinnati Reds look to complete the three game sweep today in Pittsburgh where they take on division rivals the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Reds have absolutely dominated the Pirates of late winning 15 of the last 20 meetings including the last 7 in a row.
Head to Head Trends
Reds are 7-0 in the last 7 meetings.
Reds are 8-3 in the last 11 meetings in Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh Pirates (-150)
The Pittsburgh Pirates are 4th in the National League Central with a 12-15 record. After starting the season losing 6 of their first 9 games the Pirates looked like they had things turned around but they have gone ice cold again losing 7 of their last 8 games. The Pirates offense is mostly to blame scoring 2 or fewer runs in 7 of those games.
Starting for the Pirates in this one A.J. Burnett who is 0-1 with a 1.45 EA on the season. Burnett has pitched surprisingly good this season only allowing 5 earned runs total in his 5 starts but he’s had virtually no run support and that’s the reason for his poor record, on a lot of other teams he could easily be 5-0.
Pittsburgh Pirates Trends
Pirates are 0-5 in their last 5 overall.
Pirates are 1-5 in Burnetts last 6 starts.
Cincinnati Reds (+140)
On the hill for the Reds today is Anthony Desclafani who is 2-2 with a 2.03 ERA in his 5 starts this season. Desclafani has pitched great so far although he didn’t have the best outing in his last start allowing 4 earned runs in just 5 innings of work.
Cincinnati Reds Trends
Reds are 9-4 in their last 13 vs. a team with a losing record.
Reds are 16-37 in their last 53 road games.
Conclusion
I like the Cincinnati Reds over the Pirates in this one. There’s a couple things I like about the Reds today and the first one is the Pirates offense has been almost non existent of late and the other one is they are a pretty big +140 underdog so I think they are definitely worth a bet here.
