MLB Pick: San Francisco Giants at Cincinnati Reds
Overview
The San Francisco Giants are in Cincinnati for the second game of their three game series with the Reds. The Reds had a 6-3 lead early in yesterdays game but their bullpen couldn’t hold on to that lead giving up 6 runs in the last 3 innings on the way to a 9-6 loss.
Head to Head Trends
Giants are 6-1 in the last 7 meetings.
Over is 18-7-3 in the last 28 meetings.
Cincinnati Reds (+145)
The Cincinnati Reds are last in the National League Central with a 10-16 record 9 games out of 1st place. The Reds got off to a quick start this season winning 5 of their first 6 games but they have been pretty bad of late winning just 1 of their last 8 games.
The Reds haven’t really been doing anything good so far this season. They have a 5.92 ERA which is obviously not very good and they also haven’t been hitting averaging just 3.81 runs per game. It looks like the hitting is starting to come around scoring 6 runs in back to back games but their pitching is still looking pretty bad.
On the hill for the Reds in this one is Jon Moscot who is 0-2 with a 4.02 ERA in his 3 starts this season. Moscot hasn’t been super bad he’s allowing less then a hit per inning but his control has been horrible allowing 9 walks over just 15 innings.
Cincinnati Reds Trends
Reds are 23-52 in their last 75 overall.
Reds are 0-4 in Moscots last 4 starts.
San Francisco Giants (-155)
The San Francisco Giants are 1st in the National League West with a 14-13 record just a half game up on the 2nd place LA Dodgers. The Giants are playing some solid ball right now winning 7 of their last 10 games although 3 of those wins did come against the Padres.
Taking the mound for the Giants in this one is Jeff Samardzija or Jeff alphabet as I like to call him because his name looks like he just took a bunch of random letters and put them together. Jeff has pitched well so far this season going 3-1 with a 3.86 ERA in 5 starts.
San Francisco Giants Trends
Giants are 8-21 in their last 29 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.
Giants are 2-5 in their last 7 games vs. a starter with a WHIP greater than 1.30.
Conclusion
I’m going with the Cincinnati Reds over the Giants in this one. The Giants are probably the better team overall but I think the Reds offense is starting to come around and they’re also a pretty big home dog so I think they’re worth a shot today.
