MLB Pick: Toronto Blue Jays at Chicago White Sox
Overview
The Toronto Blue Jays are in Chicago for the third game of their four game series with the White Sox. So far both teams have split the first two games with a win a piece in a couple of surprisingly low scoring games but I have a feeling we might be in for a high scoring game tonight.
Head to Head Trends
White Sox are 1-4 in Danks’ last 5 starts vs. Blue Jays.
Over is 5-2 in Danks’ last 7 starts vs. Blue Jays.
Chicago White Sox (+135)
The Chicago White Sox are last in the American League Central 11 games back of the 1st place Kansas City Royals. If it wasn’t for an 8 game losing streak a few weeks back the White Sox would probably be a .500 team and at least in the conversation in the Central but now it looks like if they don’t turn things around fast and in a big way they might start trading away players.
On the hill for the White Sox today is lefty John Danks who is 4-8 with a 4.95 ERA on the season. Danks is a gas-can and will probably get hammered today by a Jays team who loves hitting left handed pitching.
Chicago White Sox Trends
White Sox are 7-16 in their last 23 vs. American League East.
White Sox are 8-21 in Danks’ last 29 starts vs. American League East.
Toronto Blue Jays (-145)
The Toronto Blue Jays are 2nd in the American League East just a game and a half back of the 1st place New York Yankees. The Blue Jays are the highest scoring team in baseball averaging 5.40 runs per game and like I mentioned above they love hitting lefties. The Blue Jays are hitting .290 and averaging 5.64 runs per 9 innings off left handed pitching so a below average pitcher like Danks probably won’t fear all that well.
Starting for the Blue Jays today is Drew Hutchison who is 8-2 with a 5.23 ERA on the season. Hutchison has pitched great at home this season where he has an ERA of 2.12 but he has been absolutely horrible on the road where he has an ERA of 9.00.
Toronto Blue Jays Trends
Blue Jays are 14-6 in their last 20 games as a favorite.
Blue Jays are 5-1 in Hutchisons last 6 starts.
Conclusion
Even though I don’t like Drew Hutchison on the road I still have to take the Blue Jays in this one. The Blue Jays offense kills lefties so even if Hutchison give up a few runs they should still have a pretty big cushion.
