One of the closest games in oddsmakers’ minds for the Saturday MLB slate is July 25th Braves at Mets betting. Atlanta is listed at -115 on the road while New York is -105 to start the season 2-0.
Fortunately for the Braves, the Mets don’t have Jacob deGrom on the hill for game two. Atlanta was completely stifled by the New York ace on Friday managing just 1 hit over 5.0 IP. New York didn’t get their lone score in the 1-0 win until the 7th though so deGrom picked up a ND. Will their be more offense upcoming for July 25th Braves at Mets betting as the total is set at 9?
Will Atlanta Get Bats Going Saturday?
The Braves managed just 3-hits as a team in the season opener with Ronald Acuna, Jr. especially struggling going 1-4 with 3 K’s. Steven Matz takes the hill for New York on Saturday with Atlanta posting a .261 collective average vs. the Mets’ lefty.
The Braves scored 2 ER or less 5 of 6 times facing Matz last season. Take away plating 5 ER in 5 IP last June 19th and Atlanta scored 6 ER in 26 innings facing the lefty. That’s a 2.08 ERA.
Max Fried might not get much help from his own offense on Saturday. The lefty tallied 17 wins a year ago but also while posting a 4.02 ERA. Fried started 4 games vs. the Mets last season, going 2-0 with a 3.86 ERA. He allowed 8 ER in 10 IP in two starts at New York though.
Can Matz Match deGrom’s Outing?
Is Atlanta’s potent offense going to start slow out of the gates in 2020 or was Friday’s 3 hits more of a result of facing a back-to-back Cy Young winner? It will be Steven Matz’s opportunity in July 25th Braves at Mets betting making his 1st start after an 11-10, 4.21 ERA.
Matz had a great Spring / Summer camp posting just a 1.50 ERA in 3 starts (6.0 IP). Matz was also a solid 2-2 with a 3.19 ERA vs. Atlanta last season and has only allowed 2 HR in 150 plate appearances vs. the current Braves lineup.
Of course lost in yesterday’s stellar performance from the Mets’ pitching staff was the fact that their own offense only produced one run on a Yeonis Cespedes HR. Brandon Nimmo went 2-4 from the leadoff spot but otherwise there wasn’t much going for NY bats, especially with Pete Alonso going 0-3. This has to give the ‘under’ 9 a lean.
July 25th Braves at Mets Betting Pick
Can New York do it with anybody besides deGrom? That is the big question ahead of Saturday’s matchup between two talented teams. This is playing out to be another pitching duel and the total of 9 looks a bit on the high side.
Overall New York was 8-11 vs. Atlanta last season. Matz was splendid in his starts vs. the Braves though while Fried struggled pitching at Citi Field with Atlanta. Yes there are no fans there this season, but the dimensions are still the same. The Mets look like a solid play at a great early season price:
Pick: Mets -105
Pick: Under 9
