MLB Saturday June 29th Yankees at Blue Jays Betting Preview

New York Back on Track After Friday's Win?

New York was in a bit of a rut with a season high four game losing streak, but they turned that around in belting out their most hits and runs of 2024 in Friday’s 16-5 win at Toronto for a nice payout at +102. The weekend series is now tied up 1-1 heading into the June 29th Yankees at Blue Jays betting matchup after Toronto took Thursday’s opener 9-2 as slight +110 underdogs.

There’s still a relatively low price tag on the Yankees for game three at just -126. Sure the Yankees are just 2-7 in their last 9, but they’re still 52-31 on the season compared to a Toronto team that is 6 games under .500 in 2024. Toronto is a +108 home ‘dog for Saturday afternoon’s meeting.

Why the Yankees Have Value on Saturday

Any time a team smashes out 18 hits and 16 runs in a game the questions become a) do they have anything left in the tank or b) is this the start of something special? New York fans are obviously hoping for the latter as they were held to 2 runs or less in three of four games during the losing streak that was snapped on Friday night.

It would be easier to list who didn’t have a nice night at the plate for the Yankees on Friday, as every starter got at least one hit and the top three in the order were 7-15 with 5 RBI. Juan Soto had a 3-run blast for his 20th HR of the year and Aaron Judge had a 3-hit night to up his average to .500 over the last four games.

We will see what New York has in store for an encore at the plate after Friday’s remarkable performance, but they ultimately hope they don’t need that many runs with Nestor Cortes, Jr. (4-6, 3.40 ERA) up in the rotation. The left-hander has pitched into the 6th in his last four outings and is 2-2 with a 3.55 ERA in his career vs. the Blue Jays.

Why the Blue Jays Have Value on Saturday

Do the Yankees have anything left in their offensive tank after the outpouring at the plate on Friday? Toronto is obviously hoping not, and this is a New York team that averaged less than 3 runs/game their previous four prior to the explosion in game two – including just a 3 hit night in Thursday’s series opener.

Somewhat lost in the Yankees big night at the plate on Friday is that Toronto has now scored at least 5 runs in five straight games, including 23 over their last three. George Springer had a couple of 3-run HR’s in Thursday’s 9-2 win, and Vlad Guerrero, Jr. is on fire with HRs in five of his last seven games.

Chris Bassitt (6-6, 3.45 ERA) hopes that the Yankees drained their offensive reserves in Friday’s win as he tries to reverse what has been a hard luck month. Toronto has lost 4 straight Bassitt starts even though he’s allowed just 5 ER over 26.0 IP over that span (1.73 ERA). Bassitt allowed just 1 run over 6.1 IP in a 3-1 win over the Yankees back on April 15th.

Nobody would blame you for taking New York here, they’re priced reasonably at -126 and have to be a bit on edge after just losing 1st place in the AL East to the Orioles – while the Blue Jays are in last in the division. The Yankees really emptied the tank offensively on Friday though, and with Guerrero, Jr. being on fire for the Blue Jays and Bassitt having a 1.00 ERA in his career vs. New York that’s the side with the better value.
