MLB Saturday June 8th Brewers at Tigers Betting Preview
Milwaukee Found Their Offense Friday
Both Milwaukee and Detroit will try to find some semblance of offensive consistency when they meet up in the June 8th Brewers at Tigers betting matchup. The Brew Crew had been held to two total runs in dropping a three game sweep at Philadelphia, but exploded for 10 runs on 16 hits in Friday night’s series opening win at Comerica Park.
The Tigers had put together a string of three straight wins, but have now been outscored 19-1 their last two contests including Friday’s 10-0 defeat to Milwaukee as slight -116 favorites. Oddsmakers have jumped the Brewers to -162 favorites for game two – now we just have to find out if that is the easy route to take, or the hard one?
Why Milwaukee Has Value on Saturday
The Brewers had a rough week in Philadelphia plating just two runs over three games, but they were also only outscored in the series 7-2 total. That’s a solid pitching effort – not to mention the Phillies are pretty hot going 12-5 over their last 17 and having the 2nd best record in baseball at 44-19.
Philadelphia has the #2 team ERA in baseball (2.92) and the Brewers took out their frustrations after ending that series with 16 hits and 10 runs on Friday at Comerica Park. The Tigers ended up using position player Zach McKinstry for the second straight game after their 9-1 loss to Texas on Wednesday as the Detroit bullpen is getting stretched after two blowout losses.
Milwaukee got 8 innings of one hit ball – a leadoff single – in the series opener from Tobias Myers who is a minor league call up for the Brewers. That has to bode well for a solid outing on Saturday out of Freddy Peralta (4-3, 3.74 ERA) who has a top 25 WHIP in MLB at 1.05.
Why Detroit Has Value on Saturday
The Tigers’ odds went from -116 in the series opener to +136 underdogs in game two, and 84% of the betting public is on the Brewers – which to any seasoned gambler raises some red flags.
If Detroit wants to stick it to the consensus betting public and get this underdog win, then they need to find some offense. Peralta can be tough on the mound for Milwaukee, but the Brewers have also lost four of his last six starts after getting the W in his first six outings of 2024.
Casey Mize (1-3, 4.70 ERA) is up in the rotation for the Tigers and although he doesn’t pitch deep into the game or have great numbers, his performance for his role has been just fine. Mize only gave up 2 ER – but he also only threw 4.0 IP in his last start which ended up being an extra innings win over Boston last Sunday.
Free June 8th Brewers at Tigers Betting Pick
It’s hard to see Detroit returning the favor with something like an 8-2 victory on Saturday, as Peralta is only going to give up about 3 ER usually. Mize is an OK pitcher for Detroit, but just doesn’t go deep into games and the Tigers bullpen is taxed after a couple of blowout losses – even with the off day Thursday.
