MLB Sunday July 25th Tigers at Royals Betting Preview

KC Quietly Hot Right Now

The July 25th Tigers at Royals contest may not seem like the most exciting one on Sunday’s MLB schedule, but oddsmakers are calling it pretty close. K.C comes in riding a 4-game win streak but this is a toss up with both teams being listed at -110.

Kansas City would seem to be the play here, winning 5-3 and 9-8 over Detroit so far this weekend. 64% of public bettors like the Tigers to snap their losing streak as the Royals do a bullpen day with Daniel Lynch (0-2, 15.75 ERA) getting the first crack at things. Tarik Skubal (6-8, 4.18 ERA) goes for Detroit in what could be a big offensive day (O/U 10).

Tigers Hit a Wall

Detroit isn’t as bad as their two game losing streak would indicate, as they were on a nice stretch with wins in their first 7 after the all-star break. Even in Saturday’s loss the Tigers had a 6-0 lead going into the bottom of the 5th inning before KC put together a rally for a 9-8 win.

The Tigers basically knocked Royals starter Daniel Lynch out of the majors when they faced him on May 13th, plating 4 runs in just 2.2 IP from Kansas City’s top prospect. The left-hander was sent back to Triple A right after that game and will be making his first MLB start in over two months in the July 25th Tigers at Royals matchup.

Tigers starter Tarik Skubal knows a thing or two about struggles after starting the 2021 season with a 1-7 record. The Southpaw has been better lately with 2 ER or less allowed in 3 of his last 5. Skubal has allowed 5 ER in just 8.2 IP in two starts vs. the Royals this season.

Royals Aim For Sweep

Kansas City has some momentum coming into Sunday afternoon’s tilt after a Salvador Perez 3-run HR helped trigger a big comeback on Saturday. The Royals are now 5-2 since the all-star break and have won four in a row including 5-2 and 6-3 to wrap up a series in Milwaukee.

The Royals have the potential to score some runs again on Sunday. Perez is 4-9 (.444) with 2 HR vs. the Detroit starter while Jorge Soler has gone deep twice in his last four games. Hunter Dozier has also reached base 8 times in his last 15 plate appearances so there has a good chance for there to be some ducks on the pond in this one.

The big question mark for the Royals in this one is Lynch. The 6-6 left hander may be better after getting his first taste of MLB action earlier this season and being humbled by allowing 14 ER in 8.0 IP over three starts. Lynch didn’t throw out of the 6th in any of those starts and didn’t toss more than 75 pitches so relievers will likely have a big job to do in this one.

Free July 25th Tigers at Royals Pick

Oddsmakers are right to call this one a toss-up. Both pitchers are unknowns and although the public likes Detroit they are also just 19-31 on the road this season. Ultimately, it should be a big day for both offenses.
