MLB Sunday July 3rd White Sox at Giants Betting Preview
Chicago Has a Chance at the Sweep
Chicago didn’t start their trip to the West Coast well dropping two of three to the Angels, but they’ve rebounded and are now in line for the sweep in the July 3rd White Sox at Giants betting matchup. The South Siders have a 1-0 win as +130 underdogs on Friday and picked up a 5-3 victory at +138 in game two. Chicago is +110 in the series finale.
San Francisco hasn’t started off the month of July on a positive note, with their overall losing streak now reaching three games. The Giants have dipped to 8.5 back in the NL West and really need to salvage one on Sunday as they prepare for a 7-game road trip against Arizona and San Diego.
Chicago Looking Ahead?
The White Sox have clinched the series win, is that enough for them as they possibly look ahead to wrapping up a West Coast road trip and starting a home series against division leading Minnesota on Monday? Chicago is 5.5 games back from the Twins in the AL Central.
Chicago has put together just 14 hits this series, but it’s been enough to put them in position for the sweep thanks to solid defense and great pitching. Leury Garcia had two hits and knocked in the lone run on Friday night, while Gavin Sheets had a couple of doubles and two RBI to help get Saturday’s win.
The Giants have managed just 11 hits the last two games, a trend that Lucas Giolito (4-4, 5.19 ERA) hopes will continue in his Sunday start. Giolito had three straight brutal outings where he gave up 19 runs over 15.0 IP, but looked better in giving up just 2 ER – albeit in a 4-3 loss to the Angels – in his last start.
Giants Need to Plate Some Runs
San Francisco has burned bettors as -150 and -141 favorites so far this weekend, and they are still -130 in the July 3rd White Sox at Giants betting matchup. With a loss on Sunday SF is looking at a possible 2-6 home stand that also included visits from the Reds and Tigers.
The Giants managed just 3 hits and 0 ER over 6.0 IP against Lance Lynn on Friday night and had just a solo HR from LaMonte Wade, Jr. for their lone run in 5.0 IP from Dylan Cease on Saturday. Only four batters in the San Francisco dugout have ever faced Giolito, combining to go 1-9.
John Brebbia (3-1, 2.70 ERA) will make just his second career start on Sunday after being a reliever for the vast majority of his five years in MLB. Brebbia is working in the opener capacity as he did against Miami last month. The right-hander is a solid pitcher, but he also only gives you an inning so the SF bullpen will be taxed here.
Free July 3rd White Sox at Giants Betting Pick
It’s somewhat strange that the Giants are favored in this spot as they’ve had a rough home stand and are using an opener pitching strategy on Sunday. Regardless 78% of the public is on San Francisco even though Chicago starter Giolito – a Burbank, CA native – is making his second straight start in his home state. The Sox have the value here.
Free Pick: White Sox +110
