MLB Sunday June 23rd Brewers at Padres Betting Preview
San Diego Goes for Long Weekend Sweep
Milwaukee’s trip to the West Coast started off positive with a series win over the Angels, but a sweep is on the menu in the June 23rd Brewers at Padres betting matchup. San Diego has bounced back from a 1-5 trip to the Mets and Phillies to come back home and score 7-6, 9-5, and 6-4 wins over the 1st place team in the NL Central.
San Diego has cashed in at -111, -154, and +104 this weekend against the Brew Crew – are they content with that or is Sunday’s -132 price tag on the home team another steal? The Brewers could be looking ahead to cutting their losses from this road trip and getting back to Milwaukee for a 6-game home stand, and they don’t really have a sense of urgency with a 5 game lead in the division.
Why the Brewers Have Value on Sunday
San Diego obviously would love a sweep of the top team in the NL Central, but they’ll have to do it possibly a bit shorthanded. Fernando Tatis, Jr. sat out Saturday’s game fighting through elbow and quad injuries while Jurickson Profar left Friday’s game with a knee injury. That’s 24 combined HRs and close to 100 RBI possibly out of the San Diego lineup on Sunday.
Milwaukee is in a skid with three straight losses – something they’ve actually done four previous times this year which is somewhat surprising for a 44-33 team. The Brewers have always been able to stop that streak at three games though, never losing four in a row nearly halfway through the season.
Tobias Myers (4-2, 3.26 ERA) looks for his second win of the West Coast road trip after firing 6.1 IP of 1 ER ball at Anaheim on Monday. Milwaukee has won six of the last seven games Myers has started, and get out the microscope to see his ERA in June which is 0.44 through 20.1 IP.
Why the Padres Have Value on Sunday
Myers looks like the next big talent from the Milwaukee pitching staff, but the Padres offense might be transcending the matchups at the plate this weekend and over the last two weeks. SD batters have hit 29 HRs in their last 16 games, and the Padres are averaging over 7 runs/game through their first three wins over the Brewers at Petco Park.
Even if Tatis, Jr. and/or Profar do not play, San Diego has some potency in their lineup. Jake Cronenworth is 8-14 this series with 2 HRs while Jackson Merrill has went deep in three of his last four. Tatis, Jr. and Profar aren’t even declared out or questionable, so the Padres offense seems like they’ll be just fine.
Michael King (5-4, 3.49 ERA) faces the Brewers for the second time this season after going 7.2 IP and allowing just 2 hits but still taking the loss in a 2-1 Padres defeat. King has had a good month of June with just 4 ER allowed over 21.2 IP for a 1.66 ERA, even though the Padres are just 2-2 in those four outings.
Free June 23rd Brewers at Padres Betting Pick
Betting on the side in this game seems like a toss up, as the Brewers are ready to head back to the Midwest but the Padres could be satisfied with taking the first three of a four gae series with the NL Central leaders. What really stands out in this game is two dialed in pitchers throwing on a Sunday afternoon which isn’t necessarily hitter friendly. Even though the first three games of this series have gone over, this feels like a 4-3 contest.
