MLB Sunday June 2nd Diamondbacks at Mets Betting Preview
Fun Series Wraps Up at Citi Field
Arizona and New York both sit in 4th place in their respective divisions, but they’ve delivered an exciting series so far this weekend at Citi Field heading into the June 2nd Diamondbacks at Mets betting matchup.
The Mets scored a couple late runs to preserve a 3-2 win Friday, Arizona scored 4 runs in the 9th on Friday but still fell 10-9, then New York had a 4 run 9th on Saturday but after they were already down 10-1 en route to a 10-5 loss. The way the weekend has gone, it seems like anything could happen especially with oddsmakers putting the D’Backs as -118 road favorites.
Why the Diamondbacks Have Value on Sunday
Arizona has suffered a couple of 1-run losses this series and then had a dominating win on Saturday so they’re not as down as they might appear to be on paper. The D’Backs are a road favorite in the series wrap-up which is always iffy, but the Mets are also only 13-20 at home.
There are a couple reasons why we could see a big offensive output from Arizona on Sunday, the first is that Christian Walker is dialed in with HRs in consecutive games including a grand slam on Saturday. The D’Backs also face Jose Quintana, who is 1-5 with a 5.06 ERA and just wrapped up a month of May where he posted a 7.20 ERA.
Brandon Pfaadt (2-4, 4.16 ERA) takes the hill for the D’Backs coming off a fairly solid month where he posted a 3.66 ERA in five starts. Pfaadt has a 2.16 ERA in four day starts this season which bodes well for this 1:40 PM ET first pitch.
Why the Mets Have Value on Sunday
New York scored a couple of late runs to get the win on Thursday and Friday’s 10-9 win wasn’t as close as it looked in the box score as the D’Backs hit a couple of 9th inning HRs to make it seem like a competitive game. Aside from Saturday’s blowout loss, it’s been a good weekend for the Mets as they look for their first series win in just under a month.
Although June didn’t start off the best getting down 10-1 going into the 9th inning on Saturday, the good thing for New York is that at least it’s not May. The Mets were just 9-19 last month and were outscored 112 to 154 – but they’ve also collected 26 hits the last two games so things could be looking up.
The Mets are a tough team to bet on any time Quintana takes the mound, but he’s held opponents to 3ER or less in three straight starts – which is much better than his 12 ER over 7.2 IP in his first two outings of the month. Quintana is also much better at Citi Field with a 3.45 ERA compared to his 6.60 mark in away games.
Free June 2nd Diamondbacks at Mets Betting Pick
Public betting is split nearly 50/50 on this game and the oddsmakers have the number pretty even as well with Arizona just a very slight favorite. The side is basically a toss-up, and with both of these teams finding the HR stroke the last two games – and Quintana on the mound – the total is the route to take here.
