Los Angeles continues their trip to the East Coast on Tuesday when they head to Citi Field in the August 30th Dodgers at Mets matchup. L.A. wrapped up taking three of four in Miami with Monday’s 3-2 win as just -159 favorites, and there’s good price on the Dodgers again in this series opener at -148.
The Mets had Monday off after they couldn’t give Max Scherzer any run support in Sunday’s 1-0 loss at home to the Rockies as -311 favorites. New York had beaten Colorado three straight prior to that, which isn’t bad after returning from a 10-game road trip. The Mets are +126 underdogs on Tuesday night.
Dodgers Faced Some Tough Pitching Last Series
L.A. averaged over 5 runs/game in taking three of four from Miami over the weekend, not bad considering they had to face Sandy Alcantara and Pablo Lopez over that span. Los Angeles will miss Scherzer this series after he pitched on Sunday, but Jacob deGrom looms as Tuesday’s starter for the Mets.
Los Angeles meets Taijuan Walker in the August 30th Dodgers at Mets matchup, looking for their 8th win in the last 9 against the NL East. The Dodgers faced walker on June 2nd, managing 2 ER over 5.2 IP which was more than enough thanks to 6.0 shutout innings from Tony Gonsolin in the 2-0 win. Los Angeles took two of three games in that series at Chavez Ravine.
Speaking of Gonsolin, he’s the next in a long line of Dodgers starters headed to the I.L., out indefinitely with a right forearm strain. Andrew Heaney (2-1, 1.94 ERA) starts on Tuesday if anything just trying to stay healthy as L.A. has a 19.5 lead in the NL West and are cruising towards the postseason. The Dodgers have won five of Heaney’s last six starts due largely in part to scoring 7+ runs in each of those victories.
Mets Trying to Hold Off Braves
The Mets have continued their strong play with an 18-10 mark in August, but they still haven’t been able to put away the Braves who are three games back. After the Dodgers’ series 24 of the Mets final 30 games are against teams well below .500 so the division looks like theirs for the taking.
Back to the measure at hand though, the Mets have a nice three game series with the Dodgers to see how they stack up against what many consider the best team in the National League. New York wasted 7.0 IP of 1-run ball from Scherzer on Sunday, and have now been held to 3 runs or less in 6 of their last 8.
Walker (10-3, 3.38 ERA) will try to keep the Dodgers offense at bay much like he did in the June meeting. The Mets have lost three of four Walker’s starts this month though, including one on August 5th when he allowed 8 ER over just an inning and another on the 16th when he left after 2.0 IP with back tightness.
Free August 30th Dodgers at Mets Betting Pick
L.A. has won 24 of their last 31 visits to Citi Field and don’t have a bad price tag on Tuesday all things considered. Walker has struggled in two starts this month – even though both came against the Braves – and the Dodgers’ offense looked good over the weekend against a solid Miami pitching staff.
Free Pick: Dodgers -148
