New York is still in first place heading into the June 14th Brewers at Mets betting matchup, but objects in the rear view are closer than they appear. Atlanta has rattled off 12 straight wins to get within five games of the Mets in a divisional race that had looked like it was going to be over by July.
Milwaukee knows the feeling of having a bullseye on your back in a divisional race, with a 2-8 record so far in June allowing the Cardinals to eclipse the Brewers for 1st place in the NL Central. Milwaukee did snap an 8-game slide with a 4-1 win at the Nationals on Sunday, but New York is still a -149 favorite for Tuesday’s series opener.
Is Milwaukee Out of the Woods?
It’s been a horrible start to the month for the Brewers although they did get back on track with a victory over the Nationals on Sunday as -122 favorites. That saw an 8-game losing streak finally halted, a stretch that Milwaukee has been shut out three times during.
The Brewers needed Monday off to further rest up a bullpen that has been seeing a lot of innings lately. Before the win on Sunday Milwaukee had allowed 37 runs over their previous four games. Even with the reliever arms stocked back up a bit, Craig Counsell would still love to see a long outing from Adrian Houser (3-6, 3.92 ERA).
Houser has had a couple of rough expeditions recently, giving up 5ER over 4.0 IP in a May 28th loss to the Cardinals and his last time out surrendering 5ER (including 3HR) in a 10-0 loss to the Phillies as +114 underdogs. The Brewers are 1-5 in Houser’s last six starts and the right-hander has a 5.32 ERA in five road starts compared to 2.94 in six games at home.
Mets Back at Home
The June 14th Brewers at Mets betting contest is the first game back at Citi Field for New York since the 1st of the month. That 5-0 win over the Nationals on June 1st wrapped up a 6-0 home stand and pushed the Mets’ record to 19-8 at home on the year.
New York survived to go 5-5 on their trip to the West Coast, not bad considering it featured a total of 7 games against the Dodgers and Padres. Plus Pete Alonso and Starling Marte both fought through some nagging injuries on the trip as well, but both are back as Marte was 2-4 with an RBI on Sunday.
While Milwaukee has some concerns on the mound with Houser, so does New York in the form of starter Chris Bassitt (4-4, 4.35 ERA) who has an 8.68 ERA in two starts this month.
Free June 14th Brewers at Mets Betting Pick
Both starting pitchers have had some rough trips to the mound lately, which makes Tuesday night’s total of 8 seem incredibly low. Sure the off day on Monday has both teams’ bullpen replenished, but it’s also going to be a warm humid night which means the hitters should feast.
The Mets have the #3 scoring offense in baseball and the Brewers are averaging 5 runs/game over their last three.
