After falling behind early in the game, the Giants got two runs in the fourth to take the lead. Matt Chapman hit his 14th home run of the season, and Mike Yastrzemski singled in a run. Yastrzemski, Patrick Bailey, Jorge Soler, Heliot Ramos and Chapman all drove in runs in the 8th to break the game open.
Before that, the Giants offense had been lacking, as they scored just 18 runs over their last 7 games combined. San Francisco has had trouble with the long ball. The home run by Chapman was just their 102nd of the season, which is near the bottom of the league. The Giants after this series will host the Colorado Rockies for four games, and then welcome the Oakland Athletics to town.
Kershaw welcomed back
For the Los Angeles Dodgers, Clayton Kershaw is expected to get his first start of the season. The veteran left hander has been out all season with a shoulder injury. Kershaw went 13-5 last season, and finished with 131.2 innings pitched.
In the loss on Wednesday, Freddie Freeman hit his 26th double of the season to drive in a run. The Dodgers offense went pretty quiet in the game. Los Angeles though, continues to be one of the best offensive teams in all of Major League Baseball. They are scoring 5 runs per game.
Along with Freeman, the Dodgers sport Shohei Ohtani in their lineup. The slugger is hitting .310 on the season, with 30 homeruns and 26 doubles. He is the lead candidate for National League Most Valuable Player. Teoscar Hernandez comes in second, with 21 homeruns.

Kershaw is back and that is great news for the Dodgers. While he will not go super long in this game, he is going to be enough to lead the Dodgers over the top.
