Many times even teams who have made the postseason have nothing to play for on the last weekend of the regular season, but that’s not the case in the April 14th Suns at T’Wolves betting matchup.
This is still an important game for both squads with Phoenix (47-33) just a game back from the Pelicans for the #6 seed which would avoid the play-in tournament while the Timberwolves (56-25) still have a shot at the top seed in the West. Oddsmakers have Minnesota as a slight -2 point home favorite.
Why the Suns Have Value at +2
While Minnesota still has a chance at the #1 seed in the West, they would need a Denver loss as -13 point favorites in Memphis or a Thunder defeat to a Dallas team resting four starters to make that a reality – both very unlikely. While the three teams are technically in a tie, the truth is this game really doesn’t mean a ton for the T’Wolves.
Phoenix on the other hand very much wants a win – and they would also need a Pelicans (-3 point favorite at home) loss to the Lakers which isn’t a stretch considering L.A. can get a better play-in tournament seeding with a victory.
The Timberwolves have had a great season, but most would still consider the Suns the more talented team – especially with Karl-Anthony Towns just returning on Friday after missing more than a month with a knee injury. Minnesota’s leading scorer Anthony Edwards (questionable) has also landed on the injury report with an illness.
Why the Timberwolves Have Value at -2
While Minnesota needs a lot of unlikely help to get the #1 seed, stranger things have happened. Not only that, the Timberwolves, Thunder, and Nuggets all tip off at 3:30 PM ET so Minnesota should be playing hard regardless of any scoreboard watching they may be doing.
Sure, Towns missed a lot of time but he had a decent 11/5/8 line on Friday while playing in his first game since March 4th. Edwards was also on the injury report for Friday’s 109-106 win over Atlanta, but he played 27 minutes and had 14 points while battling an illness.
The good news for the Timberwolves is that Rudy Gobert is fully healthy, coming off a 25 point, 19 rebound performance against the Hawks. Minnesota has good depth also, as 7 players scored at least 11 points in their most recent win.
Free April 14th Suns at T’wolves Betting Pick
While Minnesota has their dominant big men back on the floor, you’d think they have to know that chasing the #1 seed in the West is a long shot. The T’Wolves have bigger fish to fry in the postseason while the Suns want to avoid an elimination game with the Lakers in the play-in tournament and will have all hands on deck for Sunday’s contest.
