Minnesota looks for their 2nd win over Golden State in the span of 11 days when the teams meet up in the January 27th Timberwolves at Warriors betting matchup. Karl-Anthony Towns and company took down the Warriors 119-99 in the Twin Cities on January 16th, part of a streak of four wins in their last five games.
Golden State is on a three game win streak which includes a 130-92 victory over the Mavericks on Tuesday night. The Warriors have covered the number in 22 of their last 32 home games, and come into this nationally televised matchup (10:00 PM ET, TNT) as -6.5 favorites. Golden State is 22-4 SU at the Chase Center this season.
Minnesota in the Midst of a Nice Turnaround
The Timberwolves had a preseason win total O/U of 35.5, not surprising considering they finished 23-49 in last year’s 72-game shortened season – the 3rd worst record in the West. Minnesota comes into Thursday night’s contest in Golden State at 24-23, good for #7 in the conference.
Karl-Anthony Towns had 17 points and 17 rebounds in Tuesday’s 109-107 win in Portland, and Golden State is far less intimidating in the paint as Draymond Green continues to be out with a calf injury. In fact, Rudy Gobert had 18 rebounds vs. the Warriors this week and Christian Wood grabbed 15 last Friday.
While Towns has big game potential in the January 27th Timberwolves at Warriors betting matchup, it’s Anthony Edwards that is really starting to become the face of the Minnesota franchise. Edwards had 40 points and 9 rebounds on Tuesday, and also dropped 48 points in his last visit to Golden State back in November. D’Angelo Russell has also scored 22+ in three straight so Minnesota has some real upside in this matchup.
Golden State Getting Back In the Groove?
At 35-13 the Warriors are in a pretty good spot in 2nd place in the West, 3.5 back from the Suns. Golden State has won three in a row as well, seemingly on the back side of a little road bump in which they dropped 6 of 9. Then again, each one of those wins were at home and they include 105-103 vs. Houston as -13 point favorites and 94-92 vs. a shorthanded Utah team.
The Warriors did look really good in beating Dallas 130-92 on Tuesday night with Jonathan Kuminga being the leading scorer with 22 points off the bench. Nemanja Bjelica also had a double-double off the bench so Golden State has some nice depth for Thursday night’s matchup.
The big question ahead of the meeting with Minnesota is if Steph Curry and/or Klay Thompson are set to go off in the nationally televised game. Curry has been held under 20 points in five of the last seven and Thompson only has one game over 20 points in the 7 he’s played since returning from knee injuries.
Free January 27th Timberwolves at Warriors Betting Pick
It’s no coincidence that some of Golden State’s recent struggles have coincided with Green going out of the lineup. He’s not just a strong defensive presence, but a great facilitator on offense. Minnesota tries to add one more stamp of legitimacy in their nice turnaround campaign, and they get to do so in a nationally televised game.
