NCAAF Week 7 #8 Oklahoma State at #13 TCU Betting Preview
Undefeateds Set to Clash Here
Somebody’s resume gets a whole lot more impressive while other’s CFP hopes take a bump in the Oklahoma State at TCU betting matchup. The Cowboys come to Ft. Worth 6-0 and ranked #8 in the nation but are still +4.5 underdogs against #13 Texas Christian who is also undefeated at 6-0.
The Horned Frogs have a bit of revenge on their minds Saturday, with OSU failing to take their foot off the gas in last year’s 63-17 win in Stillwater on ‘Barry Sanders Day.’ Oklahoma State added two more scores with less than 10 minutes to play even though they held a 49-17 lead.
High Scoring Game Upcoming?
It’s almost astonishing that Oklahoma State has gone 6-0 so far this season, as their defense has been one of the worst in the country vs. the pass, allowing 342.8 ypg to FBS opponents. That’s the second worst mark in the nation behind Ohio (363.6).
Of course some of OSU’s poor defensive numbers is because their offense is so good at getting big leads and forcing teams to throw to come back. OK State was in a very similar situation in last year’s 11-2 season, but they ranked 3rd overall in the country allowing just 278.4 total yards/game. It should be noted that 2021 defensive coordinator Jim Knowles left to take the same position at Ohio State in the offseason.
Oddsmakers aren’t expecting any sort of defensive revelation from OSU in Saturday’s Oklahoma State at TCU betting matchup with a total of 68.5. Four of the Cowboys’ five games this season have gone ‘over’ including last week’s 41-31 victory over Texas Tech that cleared the 65.5 number.
Payback Time for TCU
Gary Patterson had already resigned as TCU head coach by the time Oklahoma State handed out the 63-17 beating to Texas Christian last November. It’s still early, but it looks like the Horned Frogs have found their coach of the future as Sonny Dykes has the team off to a 6-0 start in his first season in Ft. Worth.
TCU fans hope that Dykes and his staff have found a better game plan than the one that allowed OSU to run for 447 yards in last year’s meeting. The Cowboys had 8 rushing TDs in that matchup.
There’s a lot of similarities between OSU and TCU ahead of their week 7 matchup. Both have shaky defenses to go along with great offenses and veteran QBs. TCU’s Max Duggan has 14 TDs to 1 INT for the Horned Frogs’ #20 ranked passing offense (299.8 ypg). Oklahoma State’s Spencer Sanders has tossed 12 TDs to 2 INTs as they rank 17th in passing yards/game.

These teams are very even so it’s no surprise that public betting is split nearly 50/50 on this game. Oklahoma State proved to be the much better team in last year’s matchup, but that was in Stillwater and TCU has a new regime this season. Plus does the 46-point win just fire up the Horned Frogs for a bigger game in the 2022 matchup?
Both of these QBs are playing great right now and all season, really so this is an incredibly tough one to handicap. Ultimately there has to be a reason why this isn’t just a FG spread, so TCU is the play.
