New York Yankees at Boston Red Sox Betting Preview
The Sunday Night Baseball game of the Week features the New York Yankees at the Boston Red Sox. The Red Sox won the first game of the series, scoring 15 runs on Friday night. Game two in Boston got rained out.
This game is the second of the day/night doubleheader and is America’s Game of the Week. The Boston Red Sox are favorites in this game. You can bet Boston at -132 over the Yankees on Sunday Night Baseball.
Red Sox Look to Improve Pitching
The Boston Red Sox will send out the 34-year-old lefthander James Paxton. Paxton threw six innings and picked up a no-decision in his last start against the Rockies. In that game, he allowed just four hits and a run over six innings. Paxton is 2-1 on the season.
Boston has found ways to get on base and score but has struggled to get batters out. The Red Sox are 23rd in team earned run average, at 4.51 on the season. On the offensive side, things have gone better, as they are 6th in runs scored and 4th in on-base percentage.
In the win on Friday, the Red Sox saw their veteran slugger Justin Turner go deep twice. Masataka Yoshida drove in three runs in the win as well. The win was kind of marred by the loss of Tanner Houck, who had to leave the game after getting struck by a line drive to the face.
Severino Toes the Rubber for New York
For the New York Yankees, they will send Luis Severino to the mound. Severino missed much of the early part of the season, and this will be his 7th start of the season. Severino went just 4.2 innings, allowing seven hits and six runs in his last start. On the season, Severilowing no is 0-1 with a 6.48 earned run average.
The Yankees have lost three out of their last four and four out of their last six games. In the losses, they are allowing over six runs per game. Over the last three wins for New York, they are allowing just over 2 per game.
Aaron Judge is still out for the Yankees. Despite missing team, the slugger still leads the team in home runs and runs batted in. The Yankees rank 12th in Major League Baseball in runs scored but are 28th in on base percentage. Getting guys on base, especially via the walk, has been a big issue for the Bronx Bombers.
Yankees Win Sunday Night Baseball
There are obviously many factors that could change with the first game being played tomorrow; we like the Yankees in this game. The Yankees know they need to get the bats going but also pitch better than they did on Friday night.
New York is still missing their big guy Aaron Judge, but there is still enough firepower in that lineup to win Sunday. Take the New York Yankees as the underdog, at +112 over the Boston Red Sox.
