On Saturday night, the Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks square off in Week Two of the National Football League preseason. Denver opened up the preseason with a victory over the Minnesota Vikings, and the Seahawks dropped their Week One contest to the Las Vegas Raiders.
The kickoff of Saturday’s contest is at 10 p.m. EST at Lumen Field in Seattle, WA. According to the oddsmakers, the Broncos are a 5-point favorite, and the total score over/under is set at 38.
What to Know – Denver Broncos
The Denver Broncos opened up preseason play with a 33-6 on the road against the Vikings last Saturday, scoring 26 points in the first half. The Broncos looked sharp on both sides of the ball in the exhibition.
Drew Lock started the contest and led the Broncos on a pair of scoring drives that ended in touchdown passes. Lock was 5-for-7, passing for 151 yards with the two scores. Backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater came in and looked efficient, throwing for 74 yards and a touchdown on 7-of-8 passing.
Running back Damarea Crockett, who has bounced around between practice teams after going undrafted in 2019, carried the ball 16 times for 59 yards and added one reception for 11 yards. Expected starting running back Melvin Gordon III did not appear in the opener.
KJ Hamler is expected to be the starting wideout opposite of Jerry Jeudy this season and could be a potential breakout candidate. The second-year player caught two passes for 105 yards and a touchdown in the victory.
The Broncos began the scoring with a safety and followed that up later in the game with a pick-6 by defensive back Patrick Surtain II. Denver’s defense held Minnesota to just 3.7 yards per play and only 79 yards through the air.
What to Know – Seattle Seahawks
Playing mostly reserve players in the opener, the Seattle Seahawks fell to the Raiders on the road, 20-7. Expect more of the same from Seattle on Saturday, with the expectation that starting quarterback Russell Wilson will see little to no action along with the key playmakers on offense.
Backup quarterback Geno Smith started the contest for Seattle, completing 4-of-10 passes for 46 yards. Smith’s status for Saturday’s game is up in the air after taking a hard hit in the opener that took him out of the game. Replacing Smith was Alex McGough, who tossed a touchdown pass, threw for 54 yards, and led the Seahawks in rushing with 25 yards.
Seattle only mustered up 14 carries in the game, electing to go to the air 31 times. Backup running back DeeJay Dallas chipped in 24 yards on five carries on the ground. The Seahawks were held to 194 total yards and nine first downs.
Seattle’s defense struggled to get off the field, allowing the Raiders to convert 11-of-17 third downs in the game. Reserve safety Ryan Neal had the lone turnover in the game, picking off Nathan Peterman in the second quarter.
The Pick is In
Seattle will likely rest many of their starters again Saturday night, while the Broncos will continue to get their young core some playing experience. Neither team is going to light up the scoreboard, and you can expect another low-scoring exhibition game in Saturday’s nightcap.
The Pick: Broncos/Seahawks UNDER 38
