The Philadelphia Eagles are searching for their first win of the preseason while the New York Jets try to close out the exhibition slate of games with a perfect record.
The Philadelphia Eagles and New York Jets meet up in the final week of the preseason with a Friday night contest. Philadelphia is searching for their first win of the NFL preseason while the Jets try to close out the exhibition slate of games with a perfect record.
Friday’s contest kicks off at 7:30 p.m. EST inside MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. New York is a 5.5-point favorite over the Eagles, and the total score over/under is at 34.
What to Know – Philadelphia Eagles
The Philadelphia Eagles‘ defense has been eviscerated this preseason, allowing 29.5 points per game. The Eagles were held scoreless last week against the New England Patriots, losing soundly, 35-0. Philadelphia opened up the preseason with a 24-16 defeat to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Eagles tallied only 136 total yards of offense, including just 81 yards through the air. Philadelphia converted on 2-of-10 first downs and turned the ball over three times.
Backup quarterback Joe Flacco got the nod under center for the Eagles, completing 10-of-17 passes for 83 yards with an interception. Nick Mullens took over and threw for 27 yards and an interception on 5-of-10 passing.
Undrafted running back Elijah Holyfield carried the ball four times for a team-high 31 yards. Rookie tight end Jack Stoll led in the receiving department with a team-high four catches for 33 yards.
What to Know – New York Jets
Heading into the final week of the preseason, the New York Jets have to feel pretty good about the direction of their franchise. New York took down the Green Bay Packers last weekend, 23-14, on the road and began with a 12-7 triumph over the New York Giants in the opener.
New York has averaged 292.0 yards of offense through the first two games, with success on the ground and through the air. The Jets’ defense has been even better, holding opponents to 220.5 yards per game and just over 100 yards through the air.
Rookie quarterback Zach Wilson looked solid under center against the Packers, completing 9-of-11 passes for 128 yards with a pair of touchdowns. Mike White added 7-of-9 passing for 39 yards.
Michael Carter led the Jets in rushing with ten carries for 52 yards. The rookie running back is excepted to share the load with Ty Johnson, Tevin Coleman, and La’Mical Perine this season in a crowded backfield.
Wide receiver Corey Davis hauled in four receptions for a game-high 70 yards, and tight end Tyler Kroft grabbed a pair of touchdown passes.
The Pick is In
You won’t see many of the expected starters playing in the final game of the preseason, as many will rest and turn the playing time over to those battling for a final roster spot.
This preseason’s common theme has been low-scoring contests, and it’s hard to imagine this one being much different given what we’ve seen from the Eagles offense and Jets defense. 5.5 points is a lot for a preseason game, and while we believe the Jets can cover, we feel more comfortable with a low-scoring victory.
The Pick: Philadelphia/New York UNDER 34
