NHL Pick: Boston Bruins at Minnesota Wild

Overview

The Boston Bruins are in Minnesota tonight where they take on the Wild. The Bruins and Wild don’t play each other very often just 15 times since the year 2000 and that’s probably a good thing for the Bruins as they have won just 3 of the last 15 meetings versus the Wild overall but 2 of those wins did come in Minnesota so that’s a positive for Bruins fans.

Head to Head Trends

Bruins are 3-12 in the last 15 meetings.
Bruins are 2-5 in the last 7 meetings in Minnesota.

Minnesota Wild (-140)

The Minnesota Wild are 5th in the Central Division with 33 points 12 points behind the 1st place Chicago Blackhawks. The Wild got of to a hot start this season winning 7 of their first 10 games outscoring their opponents 35-18 but they have cooled off since winning just 9 of their last 19 games with 3 of those wins coming in overtime. The Wild are averaging 2.9 goals per game on offense and 2.5 goals per game on defense which are definitely some solid numbers but what I really like about the Wild is they are averaging 32.3 shots per game on offense and allowing just 25.4 shots per game on defense so that shows they dominate play in a lot of games.

Minnesota Wild Trends

Wild are 40-18 in their last 58 home games.
Wild are 5-2 in their last 7 games playing on 0 days rest.

Boston Bruins (+130)

The Boston Bruins are 6th in the Atlantic Division with 33 points 10 points back of the 1st place Tampa Bay Lightning. This has not been a very good season for the Bruins so far. They started out slow losing 3 of their first 4 games but they then won 12 of their next 17 games and it looked like they were back to the Bruins we have been used to seeing over the past few years but they have cooled off again losing 8 of their last 10 games. Even though the Bruins have lost 8 of their last 10 games 3 of those losses came in overtime or the shootout including the last 2 and most of those games were against good teams so maybe it’s not as bad as it looks.

Boston Bruins Trends

Bruins are 0-6 in their last 6 vs. a team with a winning record.
Bruins are 0-7 in their last 7 games playing on 0 days rest.

Conclusion

Even though I think the Bruins are going to start winning again very soon tonight is probably not the best situation for them. The Wild are a pretty good team in general but they are especially good at home where they are 9-4 so far this season and they also had one of the best home records in the league last season so the Bruins might be in tough in this one.
