NHL Pick: Carolina Hurricanes at Anaheim Ducks
Overview
The Carolina Hurricanes head out west to sunny California where they take on the Anaheim Ducks. Being in opposite conferences the Hurricanes and Ducks don’t play each other all that often and that’s probably a good thing for the Hurricanes as they have lost 8 of the last 10 meetings overall and the last 4 straight played in Anaheim.
Head to Head Trends
Hurricanes are 0-4 in the last 4 meetings.
Hurricanes are 0-4 in the last 4 meetings in Anaheim.
Anaheim Ducks (-190)
The Anaheim Ducks are 5th in the Pacific Division with 27 points 10 points back of the 1st place LA Kings. The Ducks had an absolutely horrible start to the season losing 9 of their first 10 games in large part due to an offense that was non existent scoring just 6 goals total over their first 8 games. The Ducks have obviously played better since it would have been almost impossible to play any worse but they’re still no where near the team they have been the last few years.
Last season I didn’t think they were all that good in general even though I think they finished 1st in their division and almost made the Stanley Cup Finals. When you looked at their goals for and goals against versus their win lose record they should have been close to a .500 team but the hockey gods were on their side. Things tend to even out in life but especially in sports and it looks like their luck has run out this season.
Anaheim Ducks trends
Ducks are 1-5 in their last 6 games following a win.
Under is 4-0-1 in Ducks last 5 overall.
Carolina Hurricanes (+180)
The Carolina Hurricanes are 7th in the Metropolitan Division with 24 points 16 points out of 1st place. The Hurricanes are one of the worst teams in the league they don’t have the best offense in the world although they have been scoring a few more goals of late and they also have one of the worst defenses in the league allowing 3.07 goals per game so they don’t have a whole lot going for them this season.
Carolina Hurricanes Trends
Hurricanes are 5-2 in their last 7 after allowing 5 goals or more in their previous game.
Hurricanes are 16-38 in their last 54 road games.
Conclusion
I’m actually going to go with the Carolina Hurricanes over the Ducks in this one. First of all neither team is very good but at least the the Ducks still have the perception of being a decent team and that works out in our favor because we get the Hurricanes as a huge +180 dog versus a team that in reality is not much better then they are.
