NHL Pick: Columbus Blue Jackets at Edmonton Oilers
Overview
The Columbus Blue Jackets are in Edmonton tonight where they take on the Oilers. The Oilers haven’t had much success against anyone over the past few years but they have played the Blue Jackets fairly well winning 7 of the last 11 meetings overall which also includes the last 6 straight played at home in Edmonton. This has also been a high scoring series with 13 of the last 16 meetings going over the total.
Head to Head Trends
Blue Jackets are 4-17 in the last 21 meetings in Edmonton.
Over is 19-7 in the last 26 meetings.
Edmonton Oilers (+110)
The Edmonton Oilers are last in the Pacific Division with just 50 points but that is still 3 points ahead of the Buffalo Sabres for last place overall in the entire league. This has obviously not been a good season for the Oilers although if you take away the middle part of the season that saw them lose an incredible 19 of 20 games they would still suck no doubt but at least it would be somewhat respectable. The Oilers have had trouble putting pucks in the net at times this season averaging just 2.3 goals per game but defense is still their main problem allowing a league worst 3.4 goals per game.
Edmonton Oilers Trends
Oilers are 13-42 in their last 55 overall.
Oilers are 7-20 in their last 27 home games.
Columbus Blue Jackets (-130)
The Columbus Blue Jackets are 7th in the Metropolitan Division with 64 points 19 points behind the Boston Bruins for the final playoff spot in the East so they are obviously done for the season. I think if it wasn’t for all the injury issues the Blue Jackets have had this season I think they might have actually made the playoffs or at least be in the race right now. Earlier in the season when they got hit by the injury bug they went on a stretch that saw them lose 15 of 17 games and again just a few weeks ago they ran into some injuries and lost 7 straight games. The Blue Jackets are still not healthy but they have been playing better of late winning 4 of their last 6 games.
Columbus Blue Jackets Trends
Blue Jackets are 4-9 in their last 13 overall.
Blue Jackets are 8-24 in their last 32 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game.
Conclusion
This is a bit of a tough one as I don’t really want to bet the Oilers but I think they might actually win this game. The Oilers won their last game although that was against the Maple Leafs so can’t really put a whole lot of weight in that but the game before that they lost 5-4 in shootout to the Blue Jackets so maybe a little revenge might be in order for the Oilers tonight.
