NHL Pick: Detroit Red Wings at New York Rangers
Overview
The Detroit Red Wings visit Madison Square Garden in New York Wednesday night when they take on the Rangers. The Red Wings have lost the last 4 meetings versus the Rangers but before that they had actually won 12 of 13 so I guess they were due to lose a few.
Head to Head Trends
Red Wings are 0-4 in the last 4 meetings.
Under is 5-0-1 in the last 6 meetings.
New York Rangers (-111)
The New York Rangers are 4th in the Metropolitan Division with 12 points 5 points behind the 1st place Pittsburgh Penguins. The Rangers got off to a poor start losing 3 of their first 4 games and were giving up a lot of goals. Since then they have won 4 of their last 7 which isn’t great but they picked up at least a point in 6 of those games and they’re playing a lot better on defense. The Rangers are averaging 2.7 goals per game on offense and are allowing 3.2 goals per game on defense but like I mentioned above they’re playing much better recently and over their last 7 games they are averaging 2.7 goals per game on offense and allowing just 2.3 goals per game on defense.
New York Rangers Trends
Rangers are 12-4 in their last 16 Wednesday games.
Rangers are 37-18 in their last 55 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400.
Detroit Red Wings (+101)
The Detroit Red Wings are 4th in the Atlantic Division with 14 points 3 points back of the 1st place Tampa Bay Lightning. The Wings are an ok team they’re solid on defense but do lack fire power and I think if goaltender Jimmy Howard cools off just slightly the Wings will struggle to win games. The Wings average 2.5 goals per game on offense and allow 2.3 goals per game on defense. The Wings have lost their last 2 games and one of those game was against the Buffalo Sabres who are absolutely horrible so it’s hard to have a lot of confidence in the Red Wings right now.
Detroit Red Wings Trends
Red Wings are 5-12 in their last 17 vs. Metropolitan.
Red Wings are 2-5 in their last 7 in the fourth game of a 4-in-6 situation.
Conclusion
I’m going with the New York Rangers over the Red Wings in this one. Both teams are fairly evenly matched in my opinion but the Rangers have lost their last 2 games both in shootouts and they were probably 2 games they should have won it was just that the bounces didn’t go their way so I think they’re due for a couple good bounces and I think they win tonight.
