NHL Pick: New York Rangers at Boston Bruins
Overview
The New York Rangers visit the TD Garden in Boston Thursday where they take on another original six team in the Boston Bruins. The Bruins have played the Rangers well over the past few seasons winning 7 of the last 8 meetings including the last 4 straight played in Boston.
Head to Head Trends
Rangers are 1-7 in the last 8 meetings.
Rangers are 0-4 in the last 4 meetings in Boston.
Boston Bruins (-130)
The Boston Bruins are 4th in the Atlantic Division with 52 points just 6 points back of the 1st place Tampa Bay Lightning. This hasn’t exactly been the best first half of the season for the Bruins and as a Bruins fan myself I was even starting to get a little worried they might not make the playoffs. The Bruins have won their last 4 straight games and have failed to pick up at least a single point in just 3 of their last 17 games. The thing is in today’s NHL just picking up a single point for an overtime loss is not good enough anymore because of the share amount of games that go to overtime these days. The Bruins have went to overtime in 8 if their last 16 games losing 5 of them so you really need to be winning the majority of these game to be gaining any ground.
Boston Bruins Trends
Bruins are 4-0 in their last 4 overall.
Bruins are 45-19 in their last 64 home games.
New York Rangers (+110)
The New York Rangers are 4th in the Metropolitan Division with 52 points 7 points back of the 1st place Pittsburgh Penguins. The Rangers didn’t really start out the season all that good but they have been on fire the past month or so winning 13 of their last 15 games. A lot of the Rangers success over this current hot stretch has been due to the fact that they have been getting some great goaltending allowing just 1.65 goals per game over their last 15 while averaging 3.1 goals per game on offense.
New York Rangers Trends
Rangers are 13-2 in their last 15 overall.
Rangers are 7-1 in their last 8 vs. Eastern Conference.
Conclusion
I actually like the Boston Bruins over the Rangers in this one. Even though the Rangers have been one of the hottest teams in the NHL over the past month or so I think that will come to an end fairly soon while it looks like the Bruins are really starting to heat up.
