Overview
The New York Rangers continue their west coast road trip in Calgary Tuesday where they take on the Flames. Being in different conferences these are two teams that don’t play each other very often just 9 times over the past 10 years. This series has been fairly even with the Flames winning just 6 of the last 11 meetings overall but they have won 3 of the last 4 meetings in Calgary.
Head to Head Trends
Home team is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings.
Calgary Flames (+100)
The Calgary Flames are 5th in the Pacific Division with 36 points 11 points back of the 1st place Anaheim Ducks. The Flames got off to a tremendous start this season winning 17 of their first 27 games but it looks like things have started to turn as they have lost their last 5 games in a row. It’s no real surprise that the Flames are starting to struggle especially on offense as up until the beginning of this current losing streak they had a shooting percent of close to 11.5% which is very high and unsustainable. After scoring just 8 goals over their last 5 games their shooting percent is now down to 10.46 which is still fairly high and will more then likely drop down closer to 9.5% as the season continues. That being said they are still a pretty good team and I wouldn’t write them off just yet.
Calgary Flames Trends
Flames are 0-5 in their last 5 overall.
Flames are 7-2 in their last 9 home games.
The New York Rangers are 4th in the Metropolitan Division with 32 points 12 points behind the 1st place Pittsburgh Penguins. The Rangers got off to a slow start this season winning just 7 of their first 18 games but they do seem to be playing much better of late winning 7 of their last 10 games which includes 4 shutout wins. The Rangers have a pretty good offense averaging 3.0 goals per game and their defense is just ok allowing 2.8 goals per game but they do seem to be getting better as the season goes on.
New York Rangers Trends
Rangers are 2-5 in their last 7 in the third game of a 3-in-4 situation.
Rangers are 2-8 in their last 10 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.
Conclusion
Even though the Flames have been struggling over the past week or so I still like them over the Rangers in this one. The Flames are a solid team overall and I think the odds of them losing 6 in a row are probably a lot less then the +100 odds we’re getting them at.
