NHL Pick: Ottawa Senators at Los Angles Kings
Overview
The Ottawa Senators continue their west coast road trip tonight in LA where they take on the Kings. Being on different coasts and being in different conferences the Kings and Sen’s don’t meetup all that often and this is probably a good thing for the Senators as they have won just 2 of the last 15 meetings overall and they have just 1 win in LA since 1995.
Head to Head Trends
Senators are 3-13-1 in the last 17 meetings.
Senators are 0-6 in the last 6 meetings in Los Angeles.
Los Angeles Kings (-210)
The LA Kings are 3rd in the Pacific Division with 70 points 1 point ahead of the Wild for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. The Kings have had their struggles this season but right now they are the hottest team in the league winning their last 8 straight games while outscoring their opponents 26-13. The Kings are about middle of the pack on offense averaging 2.8 goals per game but they do have the 8th ranked defense allowing just 27.4 shots and 2.6 goals per game.
LA Kings Trends
Kings are 8-0 in their last 8 overall.
Kings are 45-20 in their last 65 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400.
Ottawa Senators (+190)
The Ottawa Senators are 6th in the Atlantic Division with 60 points 7 points behind the Boston Bruins for the final playoff spot in the East but they do have 2 fewer games played so if they can continue playing good they might have a chance. The Senators are playing some pretty good hockey right now winning 4 of their last 5 games outscoring their opponents 21-11. The Senators got a solid offense averaging 30.5 shots and 2.9 goals per game but they are a little below average on defense allowing 32.4 shots and 2.8 goals per game.
Ottawa Senators Trends
Senators are 4-1 in their last 5 overall.
Senators are 5-0 in their last 5 vs. Pacific.
Conclusion
I’m actually going with the Ottawa Senators over the Kings in this one. Most of the stats might favor the Kings but I think this is a good spot to play a huge dog. The Kings have won 8 games in a row so they are probably due for a loss and they are playing a team in the Senators who have played pretty good over the past couple weeks so I think this is a good spot to take a shot.
