The Washington Capitals look to extend their win streak to 8 games tonight in Buffalo where they take on the Sabres. The Sabres haven’t had much luck versus the Capitals of late winning just 3 of the last 9 meetings overall but they have played the Capitals well at home over the years winning 12 of the last 20 meetings in Buffalo.
Head to Head Trends
Over is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings in Buffalo.
Sabres are 12-8 in the last 20 meetings in Buffalo.
Buffalo Sabres (+150)
The Buffalo Sabres are 7th in the Atlantic Division with 34 points 10 points back of the 1st place Florida Panthers. The Sabres have played fairly solid for the most part this season, they did have a 6 game losing streak about a month ago but 4 of those game came against the Blues and Stars which are two of the best teams in the league so I’m not going to hold it against them too much.
The Sabres play some pretty good defense allowing 2.54 goals per game but they don’t have the best offense in the world averaging just 2.40 goals per game. The Sabres offense has been better of late averaging 2.70 goals per game over their last 10 games including a 6-3 win over the Bruins in their last game.
Buffalo Sabres Trends
Sabres are 25-61 in their last 86 overall.
Sabres are 12-28 in their last 40 home games.
Washington Capitals (-160)
The Washington Capitals are 1st in the Metropolitan Division with 54 points which is also good for 1st place in the Eastern Conference. The Capitals have obviously played great all season but they have been extra great of late winning their last 7 in a row outscoring their opponents 25-11.
The Capitals have one of the better offenses in the league averaging 3.12 goals per game but I think they might be even a better defensive team allowing just 2.12 goals per game. A lot of the success this season for the Caps is due to goaltender Braden Holtby who is having a great season with a save pecent of .932 and a GAA of 1.92 but I don’t think he will be able to maintain those numbers for the entire season so I wouldn’t be surprised if he and the Caps hit a rough stretch at some point this season.
Washington Capitals Trends
Capitals are 38-17 in their last 55 overall.
Capitals are 37-14 in their last 51 vs. Eastern Conference.
Conclusion
I’m actually going with the Buffalo Sabres over the Capitals in this one. I might be crazy but I have a gut feeling the Sabres get the win tonight and as a nice +150 home dog I think they are worth a bet.
