This Weeks PGA Pick – Quicken Loans National
This week the PGA takes a stop in Maryland at the Congressional Country Club for the Quicken Loans National. Congressional is one of the longest courses on tour at over 7500 yards so being long off the tee is going to be key this week. Last year Bill Hass entered the final round tied for the lead with Roberto Castro but Castro just couldn’t keep up as Hass shot a final round 66 and won by 3 strokes. This week also marks the return of Tiger Woods who is making his first start after a 3 month absence due to a back injury.
Web Simpson 28-1
Web Simpson is 16th in the FedEx Cup standings and 30th in the official world golf rankings. Simpson has one win this season although that was in his first event of the season way back in October. Actually most of his good finishes were back at the beginning of the season when he finished in the top 10 in 6 of his first 8 events. Since then he has been a little shaky missing 3 cuts but he did have a 3rd place finish at the FedEx St. Jude Classic a few weeks ago.
Web Simpson Key Stats
Simpson has 6 top 10 finishes this season.
Simpson ranks just 99th in driving distance.
Simpson ranks 9th in strokes gained putting.
Bill Hass 30-1
Bill Hass is 36th in the FedEx Cup standings and 34th in the official world golf rankings. As mentioned above Hass won this tournament last year so you know he’s comfortable playing here. His game is also starting to round back into shape. This season he has yet to win but he’s finished in the top 25 in 11 of his 18 events played. Hass isn’t the longest driver of the ball as he ranks just 79th in driving distance but he can get it out there pretty good when he wants to.
Bill Hass Key Stats
Hass has 11 top 25 finishes in 18 events played this season.
Hass Ranks 79th in driving distance.
Robert Garrigus 80-1
Robert Garrigus is 64th in the FedEx Cup standings and 116th in the official world golf rankings. Garrigus is one of the longest hitters on tour ranking 5th in driving distance with an average of 305 yards. Garrigus hasn’t done much this season with just 2 top 10’s and 6 top 25 finishes in 19 events played but in 2012 he did have a 4th place finish in this tournament so I think if he drives the ball well this week he can find himself near the top of the leaderboard.
Robert Garrigus Key Stats
Garrigus has just 2 top 10 finished this season.
Garrigus ranks 5th in driving distance.
Garrigus ranks 7th in par 5 performance.
