Sunday August 9th Rockies at Mariners Betting Pick
Colorado Finally Favored as They Look for a Sweep in Seattle
Colorado is listed at -149 for August 9th Rockies at Mariners betting. That may still seem like value for the 1st place Rockies (11-3) taking on last place Seattle (5-11). Colorado has had absolutely great value so far this weekend, winning 8-4 Friday at +115 and 5-0 on Saturday at -105.
German Marquez (2-1, 1.89 ERA) definitely gives Colorado an edge on Sunday afternoon after allowing 2ER or less in all three of his starts this year. The potent Rockies offense also gets to face Justus Sheffield (0-2, 9.39 ERA), who has allowed 4ER in each of his 2020 starts. The total is 8 for this meeting.
Rockies a Solid Wager Here?
Colorado is on a roll and they’ve outscored Seattle 13-4 in the first two games of this series. The Rockies now lead the majors in runs/game (5.05) and team batting average (.268). Seattle conversely ranks 23rd and 20th in those categories.
One of the reasons to like Bud Black’s team ahead of August 9th Rockies at Mariners betting is because their key players are clicking right now. Charlie Blackmon has gone 3-4 in both games vs. Seattle and Daniel Murphy has 5 hits and 5 RBI the last two. The Rockies have won two vs. the Mariners despite Nolan Arenado being 0-9 with 10 LOB.
Colorado also seems wroth paying the -149 price with Marquez on the mound. The right-hander has been dazzling this season in three starts, allowing just 4 ER over 19.0 IP. Marquez pitched into the 8th on Tuesday against the Giants allowing just 2 ER – and that was at Coors Field.
Not Much Hope for Seattle Sunday
Seattle doesn’t seem to have a lot going for them in August 9th Rockies at Mariners betting. Scott Servais’ team was shut out on Saturday while collecting just 1 hit. The Mariners have now dropped 7 of their last 8.
The Mariners did steal one vs. the Angels, 7-6, on Wednesday but otherwise have been held to 2 runs or less in 5 of their last 8. That doesn’t bode well for Sunday as only three Seattle batters have ever faced Marquez, and for just a total of eight plate appearances.
The Seattle offense will likely need to be clicking in this one because it looks like Colorado is going to put up some runs. The Rockies have scored at least 5 runs in 9 of their last 10 and Seattle starter Justus Sheffield is struggling. The left-hander hasn’t made it out of the 5th inning in either start this season and has posted a 9.39 ERA. Sheffield hasn’t faced any Rockies batters.
August 9th Rockies at Mariners Betting
Colorado has the better offense and pitching in this matchup, it really doesn’t get any deeper than that. Marquez hasn’t given up more than 2 ER in a start this season and Colorado rarely scores less than 5 – especially in a matchup with a pitcher with a 9+ ERA. If Arenado can get going that just makes Colorado an even more favorable play.
Pick: Rockies RL -1.5 (EVEN)
