College Football Pick: #6 TCU Horned Frogs at Kansas State Wildcats

Can KSU spoil TCU's Perfect Record?

NOTE THIS GAME HAS A LATE START DUE TO WEATHER

Our first college football pick for Saturday, Oct 14, which has the #6 TCU Horned Frogs (5-0 Overall, 2-0 Big 12) at the Kansas State Wildcats (3-2 Overall, 1-1 Big 12), kicks off at noon. The Horned Frogs have been impressive, as they have amassed a 5-0 record that includes wins against #6 Oklahoma State (44-31) and #23 West Virginia (31-24). KSU has had an odd season in that they suffered a huge 14-7 loss on Sep 16 against Vanderbilt when they were ranked 23rd. That loss knocked them out of the top 25. Since then, they beat Baylor 33-20 and lost to Texas in OT 40-34. Our TCU plays Kansas State 2017 college football pick has the Horned Frogs at -6.5 and the totals at 48.5 points.

TCU Pluses and Minuses

TCU has two major things going for them, an offense that can score a lot of points and a defense that stops opponents from scoring a lot of points. The Horned Frogs are averaging 44.4 PPG and allowing on average 19.6. Senior QB Kenny Hill (69.0 COMP%, 10 TDs, 3 INTs) is in control of his game. He’s tossed TD passes to six different receivers. Four players are in double digits in pass completions. Darius Anderson (77 ATT. 465 YDs, 6.0 YPA, 6 TDs) is the team’s top ground gainer, while Kyle Hicks, who is averaging 5.9 YPA and has one TD and Sewo Olonilua, who’s averaging 5.1 YPA and has four scores, both bring sound running chops to the field.

In creating our TCU plays Kansas State 2017 college football pick, we can’t help but notice that the defense has more than 30 TFL, 13 sacks, and seven picks. They’ve also forced seven fumbles and defended 11 passes. DL Ben Banogu (29 TCKLs, 4 SCKs, 7 TFL) is an anchor and leader, while safety Ridwan Issahaku (26 TCKLs, 2 SCKs, 3 TFL, 1 INT, 4 PD) is a versatile defender who can pop up anywhere.

Horned Frogs Summary

KSU Pluses and Minuses

The Wildcat offense is good but not overwhelming. Their strength is in their ground attack. Overall, they’re averaging 36.8 PPG. The defense is sound as it’s allowing teams 20.0 PPG. Senior Jesse Ertz (55 COMP%, 7 TDs, 3 INTs) is more of a rushing than a passing QB. He has 65 carries for 336 yards and three TDs. RB Alex Barnes (69 ATT, 299 YDs, 5.1 YPA, 2 TDs) should see the ball a lot. WRs Dalton Schoen (11 REC, 24.5 YPC, 3 TDs) and Isaiah Zuber (20 REC, 11.4 YPC, 2 TDs) are Ertz’s primary pass catchers.

If there is a weakness on defense, it is against the run, and that may be problematic for KSU today, as the Horned Frogs have a very good rush attack. DT Will Geary (17 TCKLs, 5.5 TFL, 3.0 SCKs) will be the main guy in charge of stopping the TCU ground game. The team has 20 TFL and seven sacks. The secondary has just four picks and the defense only four FF.

Wildcats Summary

Three Takeaways

  1. TCU offense and defense are both efficient
  2. TCU tougher on D and stronger on O
  3. KSU needs to step up on D
