Runs could be at a premium when two struggling offenses meet up in the June 16th Angels at Mariners betting clash. Los Angeles has scored a total of two runs in their last three games and didn’t get their first hit until there was one out in the 9th inning in Wednesday’s 4-1 loss to the Dodgers.
Seattle is in a very similar boat, getting shut out twice in their last four games. The O/U for Thursday’s kickoff of a five game series is set at just 7 runs, with the Angels being slight -125 favorites (SEA +105).
Can Ohtani Get Angels Back on Track?
LAA just got swept over three games by the Dodgers, back on track in the wrong direction losing four of five after finally snapping a 14-game losing streak with a 5-2 win over Boston last Thursday. Shohei Ohtani was on the mound for that win over the Red Sox, and he’s up again in the rotation for the June 16th Angels at Mariners betting contest.
Ohtani (4-4, 3.64 ERA) was 2-4 with a HR in last week’s win over the Red Sox while also throwing 7.0 IP of 1 ER ball. The Angels picked up another victory on Saturday beating the Mets 11-6, and Ohtani was once again great going 3-4 with a HR and 3 RBI. Ohtani also broke up a no-hitter on Wednesday with a 1-out triple in the 9th inning as he’s upped his average to .438 over the last four games.
Mike Trout went deep twice in the win over the Mets but has gone just 2-10 in the last three games. Trout was 6 for his previous 8 so it looked like he was heating up, but that may not be the case. No Angels batter has ever faced Thursday’s Seattle starter, rookie George Kirby.
Seattle Tries to Get Bats Going
The Mariners come into the weekend series having dropped two of three to the Twins. Seattle was unable to build on one of their better offensive performances recently in Wednesday’s 5-0 win, getting shut out 5-0 on Wednesday as +133 underdogs.
Now the M’s will try to find some offense up against Ohtani, who has gone 2-0 with a 2.37 ERA in three starts against the team. J.P. Crawford has had some success against the Angels pitcher, going 2-5 with a HR against him in his career. Ty France, Abraham Toro, and Taylor Trammell also all have a hit against Ohtani in a combined 10 career AB.
Kirby (1-1, 3.65 ERA) was the #20 overall pick in 2019 and he’s had the mixed results one would expect from a rookie. Opponents have been held to 2 ER or less in four of Kirby’s starts, but they’ve scored 12 total runs in his other three outings.
Free June 16th Angels at Mariners Betting Pick
It looks like we have to flip a coin in this one. Ohtani is on the bump for LAA, but this is also a team that has lost 18 of their last 20 games. The Mariners don’t instill a lot of confidence either as losers of 5 of their last 8.
70% of the public likes the Angels behind Ohtani here, but that line seems kind of low and also hasn’t moved. There are worse plays on Thursday night than Seattle +105 at home against a team that is 2-12 this month.
