Tuesday August 25th Reds at Brewers Betting Preview
Oddsmakers Looking at Close Low Scoring Game
Milwaukee is a -120 favorite heading into August 25th Reds at Brewers betting. That would seem like great value on the home team considering Milwaukee took the series opener 4-2 on Monday to push Cincinnati’s losing streak to three games.
Tuesday’s tilt is also projected to be a low scoring affair with a betting total of just 8 runs. Luis Castillo (0-3, 4.44 ERA) couldn’t get out of the 4th last start for Cincinnati while Brandon Woodruff (1-2, 3.23 ERA) has allowed 2 ER or less in 5 of 6 starts for Milwaukee.
Why the Love for the Reds?
There isn’t a whole lot appealing about a Cincinnati wager prior to August 25th Reds at Brewers betting. David Bell’s team has dropped three straight while scoring a total of four runs over that span. Overall the Reds have lost 4 of their last 5 and are 6-9 on the road this season.
Cincinnati did take two of three vs. the Brewers at Miller Park when the teams met up August 7th – 9th. They did lose in the Sonny Gray vs. Woodruff series finale but Reds batters actually hit the Milwaukee starter well. Jesse Winker is 6-9 vs. Woodruff while Joey Votto is 6-11 with two home runs off the right-hander. Eugenio Suarez did go deep on Monday night too, his third long ball in the last week.
Castillo missed the Brewers last series but may not mind as he was 1-3 against them last season with a 4.85 ERA. Castillo ran into some trouble vs. the Royals in his last start, allowing three ER while being pulled after just 3.1 IP. The right-hander does have great stuff potential though as evidenced by his 11K performance vs. Detroit to start the year and striking out 9 Cleveland batters on August 6th.
Brewers a Trap Play Tuesday?
Milwaukee looks like a hammer time play at a price tag of just -120. The Brewers bounced back from two straight losses to the Pirates by winning Monday’s series opener 4-2. Justin Smoak and Omar Narvaez had home runs in that game to push the Brewers’ record at Miller Park to still just 3-6 on the season.
The Brewers have already lost a series to the Reds this season and at home. Milwaukee fell 3-8 and 1-4 before finally scoring a 9-3 win against the dazzling Sonny Gray. The Brewers could struggle to score again on Tuesday as Christian Yelich has hit just .182 vs. Castillo (2-11). Ryan Braun is even worse at 1-12 (.083) vs. the Reds starter.
Woodruff isn’t going to give you a ton of innings, but he’ll be respectable while he’s out there. The right-hander has gone into the sixth just twice in his six starts this season but he’s also allowed more than 2 ER just once on the season. Woodruff went 1-1 with a 2.77 ERA in two starts vs. the Reds last season.
August 25th Reds at Brewers Betting Pick
Oddsmakers are calling this one a virtual coin-flip game. The Brewers do struggle at home but the Reds just haven’t been able to find any hitting lately. Castillo at least has the potential to be great here and Reds batters hit Woodruff well.
