Tuesday June 7th Cubs at Orioles Betting Preview
Chicago Just -115 In Start of Two Game Series
Baltimore is back in their usual perch at the bottom of the AL East, but are just -105 on the moneyline ahead of Tuesday’s June 7th Cubs at Orioles betting matchup. The O’s have been minus money just four times since May 1st, unfortunately going 1-3 whenever oddsmakers give them a little credit over that span.
This line is kind of baffling in the fact that Chicago sends one of the hottest pitchers in baseball to the mound as Keegan Thompson (6-0, 1.99) looks to stay perfect on the year. The Cubs have won his four previous starts and thus have some value at -115 in the first of a two game series at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.
Cubs Had a Tough Weekend
Chicago had a five game series with rival St. Louis over the weekend, managing to go just 2-3. Pitching was a huge problem in that stretch at Wrigley Field as the Cardinals managed 6.4 runs/game, but David Ross hopes that gets shored up with Thompson on the mound.
The 27-year-old Thompson has been a revelation this year, although he is coming off his worst outing of 2022 where he gave up 3 ER over 5.1 IP. If that’s your worst outing, things are going pretty good and besides the Cubs ended up taking a 7-5 win anyways. Thompson is 2-0 with a 2.35 ERA in two road starts this season.
The Cubs averaged 5.0 runs/game over their five game series with the Redbirds as they continue to have one of the most underrated offenses in baseball. Chicago ranks 10th in MLB with 4.46 runs/game Five Cubs players are hitting .360 or better over the past week, with Rafael Ortega leading the way at .467. Rookie Christopher Morel has gotten on base in all 20 games of his MLB career.
O’s Bats Struggling
Baltimore ‘only’ dropped two of three over the weekend against Cleveland which is impressive considering they only had 13 hits as a team. Saturday’s 5-4 win came as the Orioles scratched out just 4 hits – but they were all big ones with an Austin Hays 3-run shot as well as solo HRs from Trey Mancini and Rougned Odor.
The bats may struggle again in the June 7th Cubs at Orioles betting matchup with Thompson on the mound for Chicago. Jorge Mateo is the only Baltimore batter to ever face the Cubs starter.
The good news for Baltimore is that the Cubs aren’t familiar at all with their pitcher, as rookie Kyle Bradish (1-3, 6.82 ERA) makes the 8th start of his MLB career. He’s had some growing pains as expected with four of those outings resulting in the opponent tallying 4+ ER, but the right-hander did allow just 2 ER in his most recent start.
Free June 7th Cubs at Orioles Betting Pick
Chicago is by no means a postseason contender at this point, but it is still somewhat strange that they are priced at just -120 on Tuesday night. The Cubs are actually better on the road than at Wrigley Field, going 12-12 as opposed to 11-20. Chicago has also won 9 of their last 12 against the AL East.
The Orioles managed to score 10 runs over the weekend against the Guardians despite having just 13 hits. They had the long ball working but Thompson has allowed just 3 HR all season. Despite the red flag pricing, Chicago should take this one.
Free Pick: Cubs -120
