Toronto hasn’t won a series since the beginning of the month but can end that streak in the May 17th Mariners at Blue Jays betting contest. Toronto took the opener against Seattle 6-2 as -167 favorites but have still dropped 6 of their last 8.
The Blue Jays are -145 favorites in Tuesday night’s matchup but Seattle has some value at +125 considering they’ve flip-flopped wins and losses in the last 9 games and are coming off a defeat. About 59% of public bettors are backing Toronto at home in this one, and they are 11-6 at the Rogers Centre this season.
Seattle Tries to Steal One
The Mariners had a good weekend in the Big Apple, taking two of three from the first place Mets. That came after dropping two of three at home to Philadelphia so Seattle is still searching for some consistency heading into the May 17th Mariners at Blue Jays matchup.
Seattle didn’t do much offensively in Monday night’s series opener, managing just 4 hits in the 6-2 loss. The first four batters in the Mariners lineup were 0-16 in that game, and the lone bright spot was Eugenio Suarez hitting his 200th career HR. The Mariners have been held to 2 runs or less in 6 of their last 9 games which definitely causes some concerns heading into game two.
Logan Gilbert (4-1, 2.13 ERA) may not get a ton of run support on Tuesday night which isn’t good because he’s stumbled in two straight starts. Gilbert did allow just 3 hits in his previous start – but one of those was a Rhys Hoskins grand slam as Seattle fell 4-2 to the Phillies. The right-hander also allowed 3 ER his previous start after giving up just 2 ER over his first 5 outings of the season.
Blue Jays Go for Series Win
Toronto has dropped two series against the Yankees, one to the Guardians, and one to Tampa Bay for a 3-9 record heading into Monday’s win. That has dropped the Blue Jays to 7.5 games back form New York in the AL East but Toronto can get back on track with a series win over Seattle and with the 9-25 Reds coming to town over the weekend.
The Blue Jays had 10 hits on Monday night with Bo Bichette going 3-5 with a HR and Matt Chapman also adding a long ball. The home run from Chapman was a bright spot as he’s hitting just .125 over the past week, and George Springer also had a hit, his first in the last four games (1-13).
Seattle’s offense has been in neutral recently which Jose Berrios (2-2, 5.82 ERA) will take after a couple consecutive rough starts. Berrios allowed 6 ER over 4.2 IP to Cleveland and then 5 ER in 5.1 IP against the Yankees in his most recent start putting his May ERA to 9.90.

If the alternating wins and losses trend holds true Seattle is due for the victory on Tuesday night. That could very well happen the way Berrios is struggling, but the Mariners also have some real offensive concerns lately. That being said, the value is on Seattle as the underdog here.
