If you took the 2017 Super Bowl LI prop bet that the game would go into overtime, you were a winner. This was the first time ever that a Super Bowl was decided in OT. But perhaps everyone should have seen that. Why?
After all, if the favored New England Patriots were going to set a record and win number five, becoming the only team to ever do so, of course they’d do it uniquely. Yes, that they did and in doing so a bunch of record were set and Brady and Belichick were declared the greatest of all time.
2017 Super Bowl LI Prop Bet Winners
To recap a few of those 2017 Super Bowl LI prop bet winners here are four:
- National Anthem over 1:59
- Sacks over 3.5
- Turnovers over 2.5
- One Missed Extra Point
And it goes on. But the three game prop bets illustrate just what an usual Super Bowl it was.
Super Bowl Firsts
Records Brady, the MVP, broke include most pass attempts (62), most completions (43), and most passing yards (466), Also, most Super Bowl MVPs (four passing Joe Montana), first QB with three-fourth quarter Super Bowl comebacks, and most game-winning drives in postseason (10).
And receiver James White broke the Super Bowl record for catches with 14! He was also pretty important in the end.
Wore Them Down
The Patriots managed to get some key plays in the second-half, including:
- Forcing the Matt Ryan fumble
- Julian Edelman’s amazing catch
- The two-point conversion play to tie
And then the Pats capped it off with an overdrive push in OT to win it, which included James-I-Caught-14-Super-Bowl-Passes-White’s game-winning two-yard run for the TD.
How did the Pats do it? Really, they wore down the Falcons’ defense. New England came to the game with a big advantage that included a lot of Super Bowl experience, the ability to never give up and come back, and astounding leadership on the sidelines and the field. Brady had so many choices on who to throw to that the Falcons had a tough time covering everyone. Plus, when Brady had worn down the Atlanta defense with 50 passes, he had 12 more in his pocket for the tie and win.
When Roger Goodell presented the trophy he was booed loudly from start to finish. So much so that it was hard to hear him. I wonder what the over/under was on that? But once the trophy was handed off to owner Bob Kraft it was all cheers.
By the way, if you took the Pats at -3.0 and the over at 58.5, you, miraculously, won. Wow!
