Clemson Tigers at Georgia Bulldogs Betting Pick for Week 1
From Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, the Clemson Tigers and Georgia Bulldogs will mix it up on Saturday. This is one of the most talked about games in Week 1 of the College Football season. These two teams are both ranked in the Top 15 of the preseason Associated Press poll, and seeking a chance to play in the 12 team College Football playoff.
The Clemson Tigers are coming off a 9-4 season a year ago. The Tigers went to a bowl game and beat Kentucky to finish their season. Clemson is out of the Atlantic Coast Conference, and come into the game ranked 14th in the country.
For Georgia, following back to back national titles, they did not reach the four team college playoff a year ago. The Bulldogs though went 13-1, and beat Florida State by 60 points in the Orange Bowl to finish the season. Georgia is the top ranked team in the nation, and the preseason favorite to win the title.
The Georgia Bulldogs are -13.5 against Clemson in this game. The total is 48.5.
Clemson Tigers as Big Underdogs
The Tigers a season ago, scored just shy of 30 points per game. The defense was one of the best in the nation, allowing 19.9 points per game. Clemson will use quarterback Cade Klubnik under center again. A season ago, he was 290 of 454 for 2.844 yards and 19 touchdowns.
Phil Mafah took over as a stud running back last season, getting 179 carries. He returns for the Tigers, and should be a big threat. He finished with 13 touchdowns. In the receiving game, the Tigers will turn to sophomore Tyler Brown to lead the way. Last season, Brown caught 52 passes for 531 yards and four touchdowns.
Clemson will host Appalachian State in their next game. After that, they will start Atlantic Coast Conference play, as they host North Carolina State on September 21st.
Georgia Bulldogs Elite Program
Georgia was one of the best teams on both sides of the ball last season. On defense, they allowed just 16.6 points per game. On offense, they scored 40.1 points per game. That was fifth in the country. The passing game was 11th with 305.3 yards per game, and they rushed for 191.2 per game.
Carson Beck will lead the offense under center. His weapons in the passing game from last season are mostly gone, but there is a new crew of talented players. Dominic Lovett did return to Athens, after catching 54 passes a season ago. Roderick Robinson will start at running back for the Bulldogs. He had just 24 carries a season ago.
The Bulldogs will head home following this game. Georgia will host Tennessee Tech on September 7th. The Bulldogs then start the conference season with back to back road games. Georgia is at Kentucky September 14th and at Alabama September 28th.
