MLB Sunday June 6th Cubs at Giants Betting Preview
Chicago Tries to Salvage One Game In This Series
It hasn’t been a very productive trip to the Bay Area for Chicago, who has lost three straight heading into the June 6th Cubs at Giants betting preview. The skid for the North Siders has cost them 1st place in the Central, while San Francisco winning 7 of their last 8 has them back atop the NL West.
Oddsmakers have listed this as a tight one, setting the Cubs at -111 behind Kyle Hendricks (6-4, 4.62 ERA) on the bump. San Francisco counters with Jonny Cueto (4-1, 3.45 ERA) with a price tag of -109. Can Chicago tally a win, or does this have the makings of a disastrous road trip with three games at the Padres upcoming?
Cubs Set for a Tailspin?
It may be a bit early to panic, but the Cubs’ three game losing streak has allowed Milwaukee to vault to the top of the NL Central. Chicago is still just 1.5 GB of the Brewers, but have had some pitching struggles over the weekend being outscored 19-10 in the three games vs. San Francisco so far.
Hendricks will try to stop the bleeding in the June 6th Cubs at Giants matchup. The right-hander is on a 4-game win streak despite allowing 6 ER (5 HR) over his last two starts (13.0 IP). Chicago hasn’t had a starter pitch into the 6th inning yet this series, so their bullpen is a bit strained heading into Sunday’s finale. That puts the onus on Hendricks for a long outing in this spot.
Both teams may be a bit shorthanded for Sunday’s meeting, with Chicago’s Joc Pederson questionable with a back injury. Pederson homered on Thursday and Friday, but left Saturday’s tilt after 2 AB. Chicago is getting some unlikely contributions with their injuries mounting, including Patrick Wisdom belting out 4 HR in his last 6 games and Sergio Alcantara going 6 for his last 13 (.462) with 2 doubles and 2 triples.
Giants Going Sweeping Again?
One thing San Francisco has been good at this season is closing things out. They’ve gone 4-0 their last 4 in game 4 of a series and have five sweeps on the season. San Francisco is also 14-3 in their last 17 vs. a RH starter, but active players have hit just .137 as a team vs. Hendricks (7-51). The Giants have also won 6 of their last 7 vs. the Cubs at home and are 8-0 their last 8 vs. the NL Central.
The Giants also have some injury concerns ahead of Sunday’s tilt though. Evan Longoria is questionable after colliding with Brandon Crawford in the 9th inning of Saturday’s win. Getting Brandon Belt back for the first time since May 25th would be huge for San Francisco, as he is 7-19 vs. Hendricks in his career.
Cueto will try to keep the Cubs offense at bay in the Bay once again. He has allowed 1 ER or less in three of his four home starts this season, boasting a 3-1 record with a 2.59 ERA at Oracle Park. Kris Bryant is 5-10 with a HR in his career against the Giants starter however.
Free June 6th Cubs at Giants Pick
The side is a toss-up here, with a slight lean towards the Giants due to the Cubs’ strained bullpen. That being said, Hendricks has the ability to be great. So does Cueto though, making this one a play on the total.
