The 2024 MLB regular season has been delivering some big matchups every single day, and that will be the case this weekend as well. There will be plenty of intrigue on Friday night as the Chicago Cubs visit the Seattle Mariners for what should be a battle.
It has already been an extremely difficult schedule for the Chicago Cubs this season, but this team is currently sitting at 7-5 on the year. The Cubs are expected to contend in the NL Central Division this season, and they look like they are on a path to get that done.
Seattle has really struggled to begin the year, and they are a team that was supposed to be near the top of the league. The Mariners are sitting at just 5-8 so far this season, but they did beat the Toronto Blue Jays in their most recent game.
Seattle is coming into this game as a moneyline betting favorite at -125, and the over/under line is set at just 7.5 total runs.
Cubs Scoring Runs
The Chicago Cubs have put together a terrific roster full of guys that can win, and this team has also been swinging the bats well. Chicago has already scored 73 runs through the first 12 games, and they are hitting an impressive .250 as a team.
Christopher Morel is turning into a MLB superstar and he leads the Cubs with three home runs, while also driving in 10 runs. This Cubs team knows how to work a pitcher, and they eventually wear opponents down.
Jordan Wicks will be on the mound in this game for the Cubs and he has been impressive despite being 0-1 with an ERA over 4.00. There are some issues in the bullpen for the Cubs and at some point they will have to figure all of that out.
Mariners Must Get Outs
It has been an extremely slow start for the Seattle Mariners this season, and the offense is hitting just .207 as a team. With that being the case, the Mariners need their pitching staff to step up and take over some games.
Seattle currently has a team ERA that is over 4.50, and that’s just not going to be good enough as the season moves along. Bryce Miller has pitched well so far in the early part of the season as he is 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA.
The Mariners are eventually going to start swinging the bats better, but they will need the starting rotation to be in a good spot by then as well.
Cubs Complete Upset
The Chicago Cubs are not getting enough respect when looking at these betting lines as this is a team that just knows how to win games. Wicks will have another big start on the mound for the Cubs, and this offense has been tremendous.
Seattle just hasn’t been able to play with any consistency this season, and that is going to be a problem in this matchup. The Mariners are eventually going to figure things out, but they just aren’t at that point so far this season.
