NFL Christmas Day Week 16 Giants at Eagles Betting Preview
Philadelphia Tries to Get Off Their Skid
Philadelphia is riding a three game losing streak heading into the week 16 Giants at Eagles betting matchup, but this is a team that is still in a very good spot for the postseason. The Eagles (10-4) finish the year with two games against the Giants and with a matchup with 3-12 Arizona next week so they’re still very much in play for the #1 seed in the NFC.
New York (5-9) has been relegated to playing spoiler the rest of the season although they aren’t officially eliminated from the playoffs just yet. The Giants had won three straight prior to last week, but are still catching a +13.5 underdog tag for Monday afternoon’s game (4:30 PM ET, FOX).
Why the Giants Have Value at +13.5
Anytime you can get nearly two TDs in a divisional matchup when the team giving points has lost three in a row it’s pretty tempting to take the Giants here. New York is still alive for the postseason – but all but eliminated meaning they really have nothing to lose in a visit to Philadelphia where fans may be starting to get antsy.
The Giants could have shut things down for the year when they were 2-8, but to their credit they’ve fought hard down the stretch with wins in three of their last four. New York has shown some signs of life on offense during that stretch, scoring 31 in a win at the Commanders and 24 in an upset victory over Green Bay.
New York played well late in the season last year in Philadelphia, falling 22-16 but covering the +17 point spread rather comfortably. With the Eagles defense giving up 31.7 ppg over their last three this could be the ripe opportunity for the Giants to keep things close once again.
Why the Eagles Have Value at -13.5
You can somewhat take the Eagles’ three game losing streak with a grain of salt considering they’ve fallen to 11-3 San Francisco, at 10-5 Dallas, and had a late TD from the Seahawks for a 20-17 loss in Seattle. Philadelphia fans would like to see their team be competitive in those tough situations, but they also have three extremely winnable games to close out the year.
The Eagles defense is on ice skates during their losing streak, but look at the offenses they’ve faced. The 49ers and Cowboys both have top 3 scoring offenses, and the Seahawks are immensely talented on that side of the ball and are also 5-2 at home. The Giants on the other hand are dead last in the NFL in total yards gained (261.7), passing offense (150.7), and points scored (13.5).
Eagles coach Nick Sirianni needs to look at this as a get right game for his offense against a Giants defense that is 25th in total yards allowed. QB Jalen Hurts only has 1 TD pass during the losing streak, but is also 4-2 in his career vs the Giants.
Free Week 16 Giants at Eagles Betting Pick
Aside from the six point win last January, the Eagles have usually been fairly dominant against the Giants with three of their last four wins coming by 24 points or more. New York had put together a three game win streak, but also laid an egg in last week’s 24-6 loss at the Saints. Playing a second straight road game on Christmas in Philadelphia isn’t a great spot for this Giants squad.
